There is a special socket for the top nut , that utilizes the holes in the nut. The previous model had a round nut!

I did the same thing except I have a 6 sided socket and used a shop towel to protect the the soft metal when installing it. That piece is on other Triumph models too. It is worthwhile farkle.

I've done the exact same upgrades on mine except the headset nut which comes stock on them now. I went with a black oil fill cap, gun metal headbolt covers and clutch cable bracket, and then Autozone valve stem caps in gun metal. The dealer I bought the bike from had the billet brake reservoir, but the other items were out of stock. So in order to get free shipping from Pure Triumph I was forced to spend $98 minimum, when all I really wanted was the oil fill cap. Its definitely an addiction.

tip for the crown plate nut: take a plastic sandwich bag, put over the nut, place the socket over the nut and bag. Best way not to damage anything!
@pmdinaz2 жыл бұрын
As you may have learned, to not muck up that nut, should've used a 6 sided socket. My English riding buddies call em Farkles here too, and they pronounce stickers as 'dekels' if you were to spell it phonetically. I actually came back to see if you ever did a front spring or cartridge kit. I love my S2, but wish it had some better suspension. Looking at some springs in lieu of the cartridge kits as I'm not taking it to the track. Also a little jealous of those replacement rears you have on from the Thruxton. Thanks for sharing!

There is a + mark on the handlebar you can use to align it back if you need to take it off, it's partially visible in early your video on the inside left of the bracket.
@AdamCroll5 жыл бұрын
I saw that when I was looking at the footage while editing! Thanks!
@barryroberts24745 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, take care to keep your sockets a near upright as possible. You were a bit wobbly mate, noticably with the Allen wrench sockets.. Might save the integrity of the nuts.

I really like those valve caps - trite, I know. BTW, and I speak from bitter experience, if those valve caps are aluminium, use some copper grease on them, otherwise galvanic corrosion can occur especially in our crummy (UK) climate - you're probably OK in CA.

Wondering if Triumph was trying to break up the aluminum look with the chrome nut. I like the one you installed much better though. Looks like you were a victim to being too careful with the installation though, unfortunately! Been there! I think you were good at one click. Did you notice that there's a + sign on the handlebar? Thinking that can be used for alignment too.
@peterhatfield56325 жыл бұрын
Yep, the + sign is used for handlebar alignment. It does appear a little hidden, though, as you can see it only looking from the front of the bike, but is clearly visible in Adam's video.

Thier actually lever alignment etchings to keep them the proper distance from the end of the bars.

Hi Adam, thanks for another great video! Could you possibly send the link of where the center nut can be bought? I see that on every video you list the equipment used (camera gear, riding gear, etc.)…it would be awesome if you could also list all the accessories you installed on your bike :) Cheers from a (soon to be) Speed Twin new owner and Triumph newbie, Alessandro

I just went to my dealer and said I want a steering nut for a new thruxton. I never paid attention to the part number. It was around $16 USD if I remember correctly.

The secret to getting blue Loctite and red Loctite nuts and bolts on Fast and is take a small torch and heat heat the nut or bolt up for a few seconds and then unscrew if you don't have any problems getting it off

subbed, love the vids and Speed Twin is the triumph I'm interested in... (ok, the impending new Rocket intrigues me but i reckon any bike over 2000cc intrigues everyone, it's just that some people are not free to safely express their motorcycle interests. But I digress) I'm actually commenting to say how much I liked the piano piece used for the video. Really, really enjoyable music. Bravo.

Hi Adam, that's weird that you say we (UK) use the word FARKLE - to my understanding I only ever see this word on USA sites, such as Adventure Rider? Anyhow, nice video's, well presented and useful, cheers mate!
@AdamCroll4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought I heard that term more than once from European videos and publications. But I may have been misinformed, You’re not the first person to comment on the fact that that’s not a popular term in the UK. My mistake 🤔. Not sure where I heard it, it’s never been spoken around me. Lol anyway thanks for watching!

Towel on the clocks...so why would you not protect the tank when you're over it with tools? Three clicks on the torque wrench...why?

I’ve worked in BMW’s for years with stretch bolts, a click or two then 1/4 turn after. I guess it’s just a habit.

The only time iv heard the word Farkle was on Rowan and Martina laugh in back in the 70s when there was a family in one of there long term sketches called the Farkles. All their Christian names rymed with Farkle.

Too bad ya can’t farkle away the tank’s cheap pinch-weld. Triumph rid itself of the pinch-weld on their new T120 scrambler, Rocket 3 as have Yamaha, Honda, BMW and Ducati on their retro models. Come on Triumph, time to clean up the tank’s wonky tin-toy appearance!
