Well got my rebore back +20 Harris pistons fitted.
After painting the barrels and exhaust clamps with heat resistant paint I left them to dry for an hour then put them in the oven on a low light, gas Mk 2 for another hour. Then they where dry enough to work with.

Just refitted my T140E Barrels using your Wooden base idea and home made ring compressors made out of 2 slices of a stainless steel fire extinguisher and 2 tie wraps. It all went swimmingly thanks again John. Keep up the good work. Bill

Hi Bill :-) nice one, it goes to show you don't need to spend a fortune on special tools and simple is usually best. I must admit I was a bit gutted when them secondhand rings did not work but at the end of the day the rebore and pistons was the best choice. She is running fine now.

Hi Lunmad, from here those pistons look like 10:1! I am putting 8.6:1 in a T140E that have a dual plugs head to try to avoid detonation...

Ooooh! Shiny shiny. You can just tell she's going to run lovely with those. You must be more than chuffed, now that you've finally done it. Great you got them done quick once the man was back. You had to give the barrels a coat of black just to smarten them up, now that they've got 'posh' pistons and rings. I expect you're at least one step beyond this video in real time, so you'll be close to firing her up by now. No spoilers though eh? I want to see it unfold. I'll be dying for a chat by the time I know it's done! Sadly the weathers pretty shite all week. Typical innit. Going to need a hand with new inner tubes on the Enfield, I'll be getting them ordered this week. If I run down with the wheels, would you give me a lesson/hand with them? For beer.

Hi Pete :-) late with my replies as usual sorry bout dat. I'm really pleased with the result, from no pistons to pistons and rebore in two days that must be some form of record. Any time for a tyre change lesson.

Great job, and really neat support thingy for the ring placement! John, mine isn't as complex as that, but in the placement gasket set I've been sent three barrel/cylinder head gaskets, two thick ones , and a paper one. It's a 250 cc Yamaha, four stroke, with just a timing chain going through. I cannot remember what came off the base, but, my question is, would it matter if I used the thicker one, rather than the paper one? Cheers, Den, Swansea.

Amazing how archaic these engines were when compared to Japanese engines.

Hi Derek :-) how right you are, all the same principal though, I remember when the Honda 750 4 came out and destroyed what was left of the British bike industry all for the want of some investment as usual.

Hi Geoff :-) Late with reply as usual sorry bout that. I'm pleased with pistons, according to machinist Harris do not use low expansion alloy as Triumph used, so a little more bore to piston clearance is needed.

Hi John, It would be most appreciated if you could you post the size and distance apart dimensions of the slots in your wooden covers? I’m about to make a pair before I start stripping my T140 head and barrels. Thank you for your great videos. Best wishes, Anthony

Hi Anthony :-) The approximate dimensions of my board are 9"x 8" the hole for rods are 1"x 1.1/2" with 3.1/2" centres then sawed in half across rod holes, I used a piece of laminate flooring as the board. Hope this help John.

Hi Sheridan :-) I'm not sure what the paint is based on but is is for cylinders, and is called Cylinder Black funnily enough :-D there is also one similar caller Pot Black. I do run it a bit rich I also run with slightly retarded ignition timing, due to the available fuel nowadays.
