As an Australian, where *voting is compulsory* and we have a preferential ranked choice system, it's scary to see the American system and wonder _how bad Australia would be_ if we had the same electoral process? Remember, we're the origin of Murdoch and he has much more media dominace here. When he asked the reason we weren't voting, most of us answered, "We don't like either candidate." He then said to us, "When there is no clear candidate to choose from, vote for the lesser of the two evils." After the election, he asked us how many of us voted. All of the students raised their hands. And that's how you do it! I will admit that during the HRC & DJT election, I didn't think there was a lesser of the two evils. To me, they were opposite sides of the same plug nickel. Thankfully, my state allows write-in candidates. If I couldn't vote for Bernie Sanders, in the general election, I wasn't going to vote at all. That would have been only the 2nd time I didn't vote in an election, state or federal. Maybe you weren't paying attention, it's not about deciding between the two candidates, it's that both are so reprehensibly awful, that you don't want to vote for either. I am not voting for either because voting for either one isn't actually democracy. The majority of the country did not want to see these two guys again, yet here we are, and you actually think we were given a real choice. Now who is the one beyond help?

“Undecided” strikes me as a misnomer. People dislike both candidates, and they feel disrespected and manipulated by both. They don’t trust either party, which is perfectly rational, given that both parties can and do lie to them to get ahead. “Undecided” seems to mean something closer to, “I could be compelled to vote for either candidate if I vote at all, which maybe I won’t because I’m tired and nothing seems to get better anyway.” More like, “unmotivated,” or “unpersuaded.” In other words, I know I would never vote for Trump, but I am unpersuaded that the world will be such a better place if I vote for Biden.
@stephenluttrell89584 ай бұрын
Sure, but at this point I’m not voting for Biden because I think things will get significantly better, I’m voting for him because letting Trump win would make things significantly worse. We’re still having distructive aftershocks from Trump’s disastrous presidency. It’s like dying with a bullet wound. Sure putting a bandage on it won’t heal it, but at least it’ll stop the bleeding. It goes beyond party lines at this point-beyond Democrat or Republican. Trump is a monster. He cannot have more power.

I talked to a lady in her 70's last year who was angry because the Democrats were going to get rid of Social Security. I told that makes no sense, it is one of the Democratic party's signature achievements and was created by FDR. It is the Republicans who have always and are still trying to get rid of it. She told me that is not what she had been hearing. It is not a media problem, it is the disinformation by right wing media. It is the same 17% of people polled who think President Biden overturned Roe because it happened while he is President.
