Hey Buddy, I'm getting slack on commenting .. 3 days late but hey ho , looking good mate ,all the little steps add up to a sum of the parts greater than the whole . Thanks for inspiring me to do rattle can paint at home . As an ex pro painter I would never attempt paintwork without all the gear booths and ovens ! But as you know this year I've been doing small home jobs and getting mostly great results.. It's a patience thing ..with all the pro paint shop gear The results are quite instant with 2k and baking.. but home paint requires patience I never had untill recently. So thanks again ...peace and love to you and PP.👍🏻❤❤❤❤

Hey buddy, great to hear from you, and you're right, having tasted the paint booth world when painting my Harley recently, it's just insane that 20mins after laying on the last coat, you can flat it down with paper for clearcoat, totally alien to me, I've just painted the fork legs on the Legend (couple of videos ahead now), 3 wet coats of Tough Paint and they'll get 4 days hanging in the garage before I will touch them, and even then, I'll be careful with them re-assembling, it does certainly teach you patience grasshopper! Take care and keep safe, D&Px

Hey Geoff, sadly Nitromors isn't as strong as it used to be, I think the health and safety experts have jumped in and made it vegan friendly, but at least it still softens the clearcoat making it a lot easier to get off... have a great weekend mate, D&Px

@@Moonfleet41 when I used it on my GT550 I forgot to tape off the Suzuki name on the sides of the casing so it took that paint off as well, but they still came up well. Other people have said that nitromors isn't as potent as it was, but the sand blaster remedied it for you, lovely finish.👍👍

Spray painting so so therapeutic. Haha. Spray away the bad and the good appears!! Just a quick protective note my friend... safety glasses won’t offer the splash protection you might be seeking when using chemicals. I’ve seen this many times and also worked in these environments in my past. Best to seek out a mono goggle that seals against your face for this purpose. Stay safe and hope you and yours are all well.

Excellent finish from a rattle can. I wonder why you did not remove the ignition switch? I know they are security screws but they can be replaced with normal fixings.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
These security screws can only safely be removed with an end mill, and once replaced with regular fixings you remove that factory integrity, and I covered all that in a recent video... there's no need to go to all that trouble for the sake of masking up, I would only ever butcher an ignition switch off of a yoke if it was broken and had to be replaced, not just for the convenience of painting, integrity means a great deal when everyone is so suspicious of second hand vehicles.

Superb paint finish. I have similar lacquer rot in my Bonneville but unfortunately no sand blaster - any suggestions?
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate.. yes you can still deal with that in the old fashioned way, the clear lacquer will lift off with a decent quality paint stripper, you can agitate it off with wire wool, then wash it clean once its gone... then its just elbow grease with fine grit wet'n'dry paper to get the finish you want.. you can take that all the way to 2000 grit paper with soapy water, then polish it up to a mirror finish, or paint it like i have. Hope that helps buddy, and thanks as ever for your support.. have a great weekend. D&Px

How many is CFMs is your compressor? Is it enough to drive this big of a blaster? Great finish on the yokes!
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, compressor is 14cfm and the cabinet uses 12, so it keeps up just fine! Plus it's nice and compact and doesn't take up too much space!
@ianwoollard90084 жыл бұрын
That looks better than a Factory Finish Del. No doubt someone will find fault with it though. Is that paint any good for Engine Cases though? I used to use 'PJ1' in a rattle can. Do you remember using that? It is still available but not sure if it is resistant to petrol as i haven't used it for years. I had a leaky carburetor the other week & the petrol ruined my recent freshly painted Engine Cases. Very Annoying!
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, it'sa stone chip paint and takes a fair while to fully cure... but once it has cured, it's pretty resistant to everything, but of course if you literally poured fuel on it, it would probably mark the finish... it is pretty heat resistant, certainly enough for an engine casing, but perhaps not an exhaust header! You can buy acrylic lacquer, which is fuel resistant, as long as you're happy with a shiney finish! Hope that helps mate.

Hi mate, dunno if this is of any interest to you but i`m in the process of custom painting my triumph america tins and ive found a company that supplies 2K solvent based base coats and 2K clear in rattle cans, they also do various motorcycle colours, this paint i`m using mate is brilliant, quick drying and curing and is rock hard when cured, just wondered if their paints may be of use to you in the future, they are UK based too. Cheers.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the nudge mate, but I want to use this stone chip paint for the cycle parts as it works so well in this application, paint that dries rock hard also chips quite easily over time, it needs to stay flexible to be durable and thankfully... I'm lucky to have a mate with a paint shop a few units down from me, same guy I painted the Harley with, but thanks for the heads up, that's always a useful contact! Have a good weekend mate.

I never realised how depressing it is to open the fridge when the little bulb has blown. You're expecting this little cheerful, glowing grotto of sustenance and you get a grubby little hole with a few suspect packages and it's just, sad. Two days it took amazon to deliver the right bulb, but all is well now.

Hi again Del, in your experience how easy hard is it to replace the clocks on and old 99 Adventurer for a home mechanic with little to no experience? Cheers mate!
@Moonfleet413 жыл бұрын
Hi mate.. if it's the same design as my TT Legend, which im pretty sure it is.. then its simple.. look down at the top yoke, and either side of the ignition key you'll see two small allen screws, when you take those out the clock set lifts away.. ( but before you do that.). unscrew the speedo cable from the back of the left hand clock, and inside the headlight bucket you'll find the plug for the wiring harness... unplug it, feed the harness out the back of the light bucket, then take those two small screws out beside the ignition key slot... and your clocks are off.. all done.!!
@stu82pendous3 жыл бұрын
@@Moonfleet41 Thanks Del taking the time out to reply, if I can please another matter which you may or may not have come across? On the standard exhaust the bolt had to be cut off as it was stuck inside, when attempt was made to loosen the bolt and shroud started to turn then came loose from the exhaust totally and had to use a crabber going inside to extract.. Looking at where the shroud (IF that is the correct term) was looks to just be a thin outer layer (The outside of the exhaust) and nothing to re-tap, is this exhaust not for the bin or do you have experience with this type of issue? Thanks again Del.

@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I use a 50L, 14cfm belt driven compressor, more than man enough for the job, just make sure if you buy a compressor with an intention to buy a blast cabinet later, check what the required cfm is on the blast cabinet first... even if you're not buying it now, then you can buy a compressor that's big enough and can keep up!

(P) Del, when you are peeling the tape from the paintwork, what state is that paint in? Is it dry or wet, and how come it doesn’t peel the paint as well? All the best to you and Penn.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, there is a critical window to peel tape, not easy to define in time, but it is that point when the paint is touch dry to a light flick of the back of the finger, but not yet hardened off, it's difficult to define it with text book specifics, it's more a knack you can from experience... like all these things, a lifetime of doing it, you just get the feel for it... and of course plenty of getting it wrong in the past helps out ha ha If you're going to give it a try yourself, you'll see that it's also a case of peeling the tape off in the right way, don't peel back against the paint, pull away from it instead of towards it... one of those things where practice makes perfect... hope you're keeping well yourself, take and have a great weekend, D&Px
