I'd like to see an allen with a counterbored washer, a lot of OEM exhausts are mounted this way and would look good here. Maybe you can make one on the lathe
@stecornes3 жыл бұрын
Nice job making the bracket, can you explain the logic in creating a slot rather than just a single hole in the centre, this could have then been secured with one bolt rather than the two, that actually look a bit small, I doubt they would pull through, but the heads of the allen bolts appear to be hardly any larger than the slot.

Seeing you on that polishing wheel reminded me of my GCE Metalwork exam many moons ago ...... 2 hrs to make and polish a Gate-Latch :-) ................ Went brilliantly until I went to the wheel ... Aluminum's fine mate, same as the wheels, they're just aluminium... it's not designed to be an adventure bike, and a piece of billet T6 aluminium will resist corrosion perfectly enough day to day.. also, the bead blasted finish means it just goes a dull grey colour like steel and blends in!

Question - why polish the bracket if you were going to sand blast it? Does it change the outcome?
@Moonfleet413 жыл бұрын
Yes it does mate, the bead blasting process only etches about 25 thou of the surface, so any scratches and scuffs left on the part will still show after it's blasted, but if you mirror polish it first, the bead blast leaves a flawless finish, it's kind of like sanding back paintwork before you paint it... all in the prep!
