The old version was top heavy, tipped me off a couple of times in slow moving tight u turns. I’ve now got a GS which is still heavy but of course low centre of gravity so much easier to manoeuvre. Be interesting to see how opinion evolves on this bike over the next few months. Helpful review though, thanks.

Great vid Tim! Nice and balanced. I could get around the weight, and vibes - Rear radar without having the option of radar cruise too is a bit of an oversight for me. Bulbous lump on the back giving people false hope in not having to do their shoulder-checks! I think it's going to sell very well having said that. Looking forward to getting on one!

I agree about the ACC - once you get used to the convenience of ACC hard to imagine going back to just CC. I also agree with the shoulder check point, a habit worth maintaining. Id be interested to see how the anti-dive compares to the 1290 and of course the new GS looks to be heading towards this solution rather than the heavy telelever solution

Thank you Tim. I just put the dollar down on one today. Taking delivery next week. We'll be Adventuring it with an Ezcan so we can incorporate aftermarket accessories that function using the Triumph's switches.

I'm 62 years old, measure 5 foot 9, weigh 68 kg and ordered the GT Explorer. Having had three 1200 GS's since 2004, it was time for something different, although it may "not be as good" as a KTM or 1250 GS, I don't mind ... .

At a mere 5'6" I had no issues whatsoever riding this bike. Having done 34,000 miles on the previous 1200 XCA both on and off road (and only dropped it twice - both on wet grass whilst doing some off road skills stuff) I think a lot of people assume tall bikes can't be ridden by shorter riders but this is really not true. In the end I ordered the Rally Pro because I didn't want to pay so much more for a 30l tank and/or radar control I didn't need but would have bought one of these if the price difference was not so much.

Had a viewing pre launch but the dealership was unable to give a fixed delivery date. It looked heavy - felt heavy and the 30l tank was certainly not brimmed. Very concerned what it would be like with full luggage load. I'm 5' 9" and off camber T junctions could be problematic. Nosed around another dealership and perhaps on a spur of the moment bagged a newish BMW K1600; Ok ,it's no lightweight but the weight is low down and I can plant my feet on the ground. Time will tell if that was the right decision. Informative review for real road riding Tim. Appreciate the honest comment ie re blurry mirrors and viby bars.

It felt heavy so you went for an even heavier bike. May the repair bills cool down your spur of the moment fascination for BMW's
@eman194872 жыл бұрын
Built for tall riders only unfortunately , why don`t Triumph use drop tanks like KTM to lower the weight, they definitely need to do something. As it is from a height and weight perspective the BMW is a better option for shorter and weaker riders. Being a Triumph fan and anti BMW it was hard for me to admit that.

We heard a lot about a KTM which you own .......who cares about KTMs when were watching a review of a Triumph. British people should support and ride British bikes. Let the Austrians, Japanese and the Germans ride their own and we should ride ours. That way the company will grow and the bikes will get better .

Till a real unicorn appear, I'll keep my 2018 gs, that have everything already! Bikes have become so good than the difference doesn't make a huge impact on any particular department, this bike is not better or worse than any other! It may be lighter than the one before, but if you start with a cow, now you just have a lighter cow! I'm not a bmw fan boy, the minute something radically better appears, I'll buy it! For now, there is nothing, new or old, tjat have the weight balance and brakes stability of the bmw! And let's not forget, bmw is about to release a new gs new year!

I've been struggling with that very issue. The new Toyota Corolla Cross starts at the same price as the Tiger Rally Explorer. Put a bicycle rack with a mountain bike on that super-reliable mini-SUV and you can go to the same places with much more comfort and safety. In fact, bicycle riding let's you absorb more of the great outdoors as you go. Something to reflect on.
