I have a 2016 XCa. 4000 miles an Love it. Traded my 1200 Tiger XC for it after 25,000 miles...no regrets, best bike I've ever owned. The whining engine is annoying though. Other than that, it's perfect.

Cheers for stopping by to comment Mark - interested to know what makes it better than the 1200? Also haven't heard of people saying that the engine whine is annoying but I don't really know many owners. Can't be solved with a super loud pipe?? ;)
@markjacobs62947 жыл бұрын
The straight cut primary gears on the 800 are the reason for the horrible whining sound. I have lessoned it by buying an Arai XD4 and a LeoVince pipe. Without a good or any helmet on it's almost unbearable. The 1200 is simply too big for my needs. I ride 60/40 on to off road and it was a pig to deal with off road. The 1200 is naturally a better long distance mile muncher but I rarely do those kind of trips anymore. The 800 is up to the task if I were though. Also the 800XCa is $6000 less money then the 1200XCa. I can buy allot of gas and hotel rooms with the extra money and leave the camping gear at home. Age = experience.

+Mark Jacobs haha I think that sounds like a good plan. $6000 is some serious cash. Thanks for all the extra information - I don't know a thing about straight cut gears but I'll take some time to read up this evening. Cheers! 🍻

Mark Jacobs yeah it sounds like a washing machine on spin mode, but I put a nice Akrapovic on my xca, took out the baffles and presto!!! Sounds very very good, aggressive and a proper motorbike.

Excellent review as always. Putting the mic in your back pocket produced some good results.
@motobob7 жыл бұрын
+Abdi Osman cheers AO. yeah I've used it to varying degrees of success before. Ideally you locate the mic under the seat or something like that, but obviously not worth the effort on a test ride

Nice practical review MB! Good to know these smaller adventure bikes can do the commute too, you even rode right past my place of work :). That mic in the back pocket, some darn good burblin' there!
@motobob7 жыл бұрын
+FatFingaz cheers FF. do you work round battersea area? Borrowed the bike from metropolis - such a great range of bikes there. Always have to tear myself away. Yeah the mic works better there for sure! I think it's a nice sounding bike if you're stood behind it but you can barely hear a thing when you're riding it.
@MankooNet7 жыл бұрын
I work at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour :) I just looked up the Metropolis; looks awesome, I'll have to pay them a visit soon!

+FatFingaz ah nice one. Must be a nice place to work. Yeah def check it out. Especially the Ducati section. Just make sure you lock your bike outside even if you just pop in for a few minutes as I read a guy had his nicked outside there when he left it on the steering lokc

Really enjoyed this review, nice and simple, without the long BS intros. The engine sounded angry and futuristic in a satisfying way after you’ve moved the mic 👌 Thoughts on the weight of this bike? I can’t believe it’s lighter than my 2013 Thruxton!
@motobob6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Aimen! Yeah it’s pretty reasonable in weight - fine for me around town

I have the Tiger XRT 2017 model, took it to the Black Forrest last year and taking it down to Spain (Pyrenees) this September, fantastic all rounder.

Nice spot of maneuvering there at 5:45 - I’d probably have dropped it!

Haha cheers mick. It’s a bit tall for me that bike too. Would have looked daft having to take it back to the dealer having dropped it at 2mph...

would be nice if you could try new multistrada 950? should be good comparison to other 2 you rode so far
@motobob7 жыл бұрын
+Pawel Kisiel yeah there's barely anything between the f800 and the tiger, so might be good to try something a bit different next time. Multi strava certainly looks like a lot of fun! How's the BMW going?
@pawelkisiel65397 жыл бұрын
bmer is doing well. 4.5k done so far. getting it ready for Scotland by the end of the month. nc500 is on the cards. That multi 950 might be very good and much cheaper than 1200, but still offering same looks, which I find attractive. only of they were reliable as commuters... I would not hesitate!
@motobob7 жыл бұрын
+Pawel Kisiel haha for sure you're way better off with the bm for commuting. And as I said when I rode it, I love how it looks. The red frame is such a great touch. Glad it's going well. My folks did the nc500 in their vw van and said it was one of the best holidays they've done in their lives. Hope you get chance to do it!

MOTOBOB I only hope weather will be on our side...7 days trip including Skye. can't wait;)
Almost had to thumbs-down this for the comments about Street Triples.. (only kidding). Great review and excellent camera work at the beginning! If you do fancy reviewing a Street Triple R at any point let me know and you can have a blitz around on mine :-)
@motobob7 жыл бұрын
+Barry haha glad you didn't take offence. Weird thing about Street triples is that some folks really love the styling and some not so much. It's such a personal thing. Although one thing is for sure - they're a hell of a lot better looking than a 2006 er-6n! Anyway thanks for the kind offer - maybe I'll take you up on it some day!

Fancy test riding the new street triple? ;) I love these adventure bikes, and would love one in a multi bike garage. But can't really see myself riding one. Although I've love to explore more offroad, down greenlanes, and adventure riding abroad. Done a few on my R125, and had to try and pull a U-turn as things got too hairy haha.
@motobob7 жыл бұрын
+Samuel Wicks is that implying you're getting a street triple?? I'm really into the adventure bikes for the same reasons you say. And also you can slap full luggage on them and a big screen and they're perfect for touring. So versatile. Thinking about starting a build later in the year. Could possibly pick up a cheapish older adv bike and get it back to full glory. Dunno. Still just mulling it over at this stage...
@SMU_3L7 жыл бұрын
MOTOBOB I am getting one, although it's the A2 compliant one 🙃 But that's not the point, you've ridden a few triumphs so why not? 👍🏽 Id love to do some touring when I get off the 125. Me and my two mates who ride are planning a trip. Well, trying to 😂Yeah that'd be awesome, I'd support that 👌🏽
@motobob7 жыл бұрын
+Samuel Wicks sounds awesome. Biking is such a great way to see places. You take in so much more than if you just fly or take a train. Yeah I might try to check one out some time soon. tbh the dealer emailed about the tiger so I just kindof take whatever comes up at the moment. Will put it on the list tho
@SMU_3L7 жыл бұрын
MOTOBOB Oh well that's good then, if they emailed you. I'm sure they'd love for you to take one out 😉 Totally agree, you enjoy the journey not just the destination. Cheesy I know, but true 👍🏽
