I couldn't agree more! I bought a new 2012 800xc and I now have 35,000 miles on it. I have taken it all over New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona and it's so much fun and as I have become more skilled, I can ride it through the worst of terrain yet it's still very comfortable at 90 mph all day long. The only real modification I have made is a one tooth smaller front sprocket. That increases it's dirt riding abilities nicely. I'm also gonna upgrade the stock springs (which are a bit weak) to progressives from TouraTech. I also lowered it one inch because I'm 5.9 and have monkey legs! Love It!

I rented one this past week for a day and fell in love. It is truly an amazing bike. Very forgiving to a beginner, but also really fun to ride for a more experienced rider. The way this bike takes bumps on the road is unsurpassed. It feels like you are sitting on a couch the entire time! It may be the most well-rounded bike in existence! P.S. The triple 800 is a very fun engine. It behaves like a little tractor on the low end and gets quite sporty after 4000 RPM.

I sold my bandit 1250 after 10 years she was feeling a little heavy im 64 now. I just bought a 2013 tiger 🐅 its awesome bit more revvy than the bandit but a fun bike to ride easy to push around 40 kilos or more lighter I love it and would recommend it 😀

Here in Australia, I recently bought a used 2015 XCX and love it, looks awesome and sounds great. It does get used for adventure riding which is plentiful and isolating here. Side note I'm originally from Royston, just twenty minutes south of Cambridge, perhaps I'll bump into you when i next visit.

If you ride off road, fit bark busters as the original hand guards are plastic and only good for keeping the weather off your hands - mine broke first time I dropped my xcx.

between the f800gs , the crf1000l & the tiger 800, it seems to have the nicest sounding engine. It's more sports bike bias , I'm guessing.

I’m looking at purchasing a 2017 800 XCx. I’m mainly using it for touring but, I will need to go off-road at times. So far it’s either this bike or the BMW F750 GS, or 800 GS. I really like the specs on the Tiger 800. I’m kind of torn. The test ride will help me decide which one I will be more comfortable with.

I bought a Tiger 800XCx in 2015 as a retirement present to myself. I rode it across Australia twice. I agree with most of what the author said. It is a great all road tourer, but some design features were a bit strange for dirt use. My criticisms are listed below; 1) gear ratio spread is too narrow. first is too high and 6th a bit low. Fixed in later models 2) windscreen was crap . Fixed in later models 3) air filter access was tiresome. Unifilter pre-filter fixed that issue. 4) engine crash bars did not protect the radiators from side impact. 5) why put electrics under the battery where it gets wet and muddy. main fuse located here. Why? 6) handlebars too low and flat. Fitted 2 inch risers 7) 10 kg muffler. Why not offer a 5 kg muffler option at point of sale? 8) front fender plastics is brittle and poorly designed for use with knobby tyres. Metal risers don't fix this. ABS plastic risers do.( sacrificial) 9) sump plate is flimsy and flimsy mounting method. 10) rear subframe is welded and prone to crash damage. Fixed in later models. 11) The plastic panels around the tank and radiators and overly complicated and brittle. 12) front brake could have been a bit more powerful for street use, but a handful pulled the bike down from speed. 13) can't remove the pillion peg or grab rails easily. 14) The rider modes worked well, but selecting off road mode on the fly was cumbersome. Have they fixed this? Having said all that the bike steers well, the suspension works on really nasty bumps at speed and the motor is a gem. I used Mosko Moto Reckless 80 soft luggage on my Tiger. Hard panniers are for road use IMO.

Great video Kevin, professional and informative. I have been secretly coveting one of these for a while now. I love the Tiger's look. I am however struggling to decide which would make the better allround tourer; the XCX or XRX? I just sold my SV650 and am in the market for an adventure bike again. I have previously owned a Vstrom 650 and loved it; the most comfortable bike I've owned to date. Prior to that I have only ever owned big-bore singles, Honda XR's mostly so have a dirt-bike background. Is the XCX a good, comfortable road tourer? Can you hustle it through the twisties? I like the extra high suspension travel the XCX has over the XRX. From what I've read and seen the XCX has no problems off road apart from an apparent high CofG, but so did my Strom and I took it on all manner of road surfaces. I guess it's all about having a can-do attitude. What are your thoughts?

What about the XCX low; how does it compare? I'm trying to put off knee replacement surgery as long as I can, and I needs to flat foot the bike at times to feel more confident .

Great video, question for Kevin can you please advise what tires have proved best for the Tiger 800?
@nurotec7 жыл бұрын
I have tried a lot of different ones and these 50/50 are great, and when aired-down for dirt and crap are quite good. www.twistedthrottle.com/mitas-e-07-dakar-dual-sport-front-21-inch-size-90-90-21-50-street-50-dirt-54t-tubeless-bias-ply-tire Get the Dakar ones as they have thicker sidewalls ;-)

And, why should we be required to buy an aftermarket exhaust system? I’ve ridden these bikes and they’re excellent, but until the oxymoron of the expression “standard accessory” is resolved, I’ll be keeping my already fully farkled bikes.

+νικος γιώργος You are right, I am investigating the possibility of lacing on the 21 front 18 rear tubeless rims from the KTM 1190 R on mine. It is of course possible to seal the rims with some of the tape based seal kits and one company in Italy offers ac service with a 4 year warranty but the problem is that the Tiger rims do not have the safety ridges inside as they are not tubeless, hence my idea of lacing on the KTM 1190 R rims which look like they would fit.
