After testing every bike in the middleweight and heavyweight ADT category this year, the 900GTPro was the only one I didn’t want to hand back at the end of the test. So I bought one! The handling is sublime and I always get off the bike with a big grin on my face. You can flick the bike through the hairpins in the mountain passes with ease. I’ve ridden it down to Mallorca and back: it makes a super touring bike - the engine heat was a problem in the hotter climate, but its a problem on any bike over 250cc in the Med climate. (That’s one of the reasons why scooters are so popular in Spain). The 900 is easy to park and hand manoeuvre in tight spots. I’m averaging near 60 mpg - which is impressive for such a fast bike.

I have the 900GT, but added quickshift and heated riders seat. Bought September 2020 and still love it. Did 2,500 miles around Europe last summer, 9 countries, 10 days and the Tiger didn't miss a beat. Averaged 63mpg so 250 miles easily between fuel stops with no range anxiety. Good review

Those extra's are ideal upgrades especially the quick shifter which I'm sure you'll agree is seamless Del. Wow that sound like one serious tour around 9 countries!! Can I ask what accommodation did you use & how was it travelling through the borders in Europe, any problems? That's really good fuel average isn't it, testament to just how good the bike is. I'm working up to trips like that, glad you had a good time on location & on such a great bike Del. thank you for your kind comments, very much appreciated. Daz

@Dazmatron Motorcycle Trips we did the Hull-Rotterdam overnight ferry, (brilliant) off the boat by half 8ish then rode through the Netherlands into Germany as farvas Dusseldorf. Rode the bikes onto the Urlabs express motorail fo r an overnight to Munich (not brilliant). Rode through Austria into Italy for 2 nights in a b&b in Arabba in the Dolomites, (awesome) Then Rode to Madonna di Campiglio for one night b&b, (awesome) then Rode to Bormio and stayed in the Hotel on the Stelvio (awesome but a very technical ride). Rode through Austria, lichtenstein then b&b in Germany, (B500 disappointing). Into France for a night b&b (good) then Luxembourg into Belgium for a night b&b in Ypres, (very moving to hear the last post at the Menin gate). Then 5am start for a dash into France for the eurotunnel and back up to North Wales. Incredible 10 days

Great review mate, I bought a brand new 900gtp in June this year and have already clocked up nearly 8k miles, 4k touring France in August with my wife on pillion. the bike is incredibly comfortable for both of us and i have so far not found the bike wanting more power in any situation, it deals with everything you put in front of it be it motorways, b roads or even light off roading! i have toured on several bikes in the past and this is by far the best in terms of comfort, economy and ease of riding in any situation so would recommend to anyone looking to either upgrade or downsize! brilliant machine.

Hi Martin, crikey you haven't wasted any time on the new machine clocking up the miles! Yes I very much enjoyed this bike & it will be one for when the time is right. Very interesting you endorse the capabilities of the bike & with a pillion too. I did wonder whether that would be a compromise as my Mr's is nearly 6 foot so she questioned if there would be enough room coming down to a smaller engine. You have answered the question saying it is incredibly comfortable for both of you but is it tight for space? Really appreciate your comments, can I ask what you do for winter riding? Sunnier regions? I'm off tomorrow to a very exciting location to ride so hope to bring some good advice to my subscriber's

@@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips Hi Daz, I am 5ft 9 (12st) and my wife is 5ft 5 (10st 8) so we’re not giants but there is loads of room for both of us, even fully luggage’d up she commented that she has plenty of room to move about and during our France trip neither of us suffered stiff limbs or aches and pains as you can move about a bit so worked well for us! I live in West Yorks so pop up to the borders and Lake District a lot especially in later part of the year, I am hoping to do a long weekend on Skye after Christmas but most of my touring (done Scotland, France and Ireland, Wild Atlantic way!) are done during summer/autumn months. I've just got the exact same bike on the 1st of September and I can concur with everything you say, I absolutely love mine having had the 1050 before it for 11 years. I can honestly say that I can't fault it at all but then maybe I'm not as fussy as others. The power, the handling, the looks and gismo's all touch the spot for me.

@Steve_Wardley_G6JEF

@@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips it's much lighter, you can tell just by pulling it onto the centre stand. The seat height is nicely lower, the handling is far better, the fork angle is slightly different, the engine sounds less whizzy and more like a bike with grunt. The power feels all there despite it being 150cc smaller. The whole thing is 11 years more modern than my old bike. I hadn't intended buying a new bike again but my finances meant I could and I'm glad I picked the 900.

I had the 900 gt pro in red for 2 years and then traded it in for the 1200 gt pro. to start with i regretted doing the trade in, because i loved that 900. i had to make a few changes due to the height of the 1200 gt pro and there were a few things on the 900 that is better than the 1200. the TFT being one of them. the seat comfort and the quick shifter on the 1200 is better and the power is almost double. now the 12000 has had it's run in service it is a different bike. i still miss the 900 though. good vlog

Thanks' Paul it's good to see owners' opinions. Interesting that you say the 1200 feels like a different bike after it's run-in service, presumably it's a lot smoother? What are the things you preferred on the 900 other than the height & tft? I guess there are always going to be pro's & cons on different bikes/models. For sure as you rightly point out the 1200 quickshifter is perfect & the power is great! Enjoy the 1200 & really appreciate your feedback & kind comment on the vlog, DMT.

I think you'll be surprised Mark, I ride a GS1250, the 900 had plenty of poke sufficient for sporty sections of any tour, u then get the added benefit of not carrying all the weight. Well done review. I’ve only ridden the 800 and the new 850, but I’m very impressed with the bike. A concern I have about the “wonky” vibration between 4100 - 4500 (which I do not believe is totally as a result of the 270° crank) is still a concern. It’s only that vibration and a few concerns about quality control and manufacturers’ response to warranty claims that’s keeping me on the fence.
@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips 2 жыл бұрын
Totally understand you're point there Walter. I noted a slight vibration on the 1200 too which on a short test ride wasn't an issue or in fact if I rode if continuously. But yes I agree, should that vibration be there in the first place or is it just part of the bike?

I am thinking of part exchanging my 2021 BMW S1000R sport for a 2023 Triumph Tiger GT Pro, Im finding the BM a bit of a handful at 57yrs old, the ride position is not good for an aching neck and back, and even with a low seat fitted I'm on tip toes and it requires careful foot placement at off camber stops. I have test riden the 900 GT Pro and was pleasantly surprised at the engine, I found it similar in grunt and performance to my 2022 Yamaha MT09. The Triumph was supremely comfortable to ride and the seat height was manageable with my 28" short inseam. In an ideal world the low version will be better, but its lacking in all the required toys which are on the GT Pro. My only concern is in the dry summer days, (yes they do occasionally happen in South Wales) will I miss the adrenaline fuelled 165bhp and the crazy dynamic pro setting on the BM? I enjoyed your informative review, also enjoyed your Matlock, "Cat and Fiddle" figure of eight loop, so much that we re stopping over in Derby to meet fellow bikers in Matlock and riding the loop on bank holiday weekend 28th May 2023......but will it be on a BM or GT Pro?

Hi Mark, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I read a similar query recently regarding the transition from a S1000R to something like the GT Pro. You know for sure it's not going to have that adrenaline rush of 165bhp, despite that lacking on the GT Pro as you say, you were pleasantly surprised. Despite that compromise what you gain though is again as you say, a 'supremely comfortable ride'. You'll still get a great ride out & with your niggles you'll last longer in more comfort on the Triumph. You won't get as many strips of road to let the S1000R off it's leash plus I think you're going to be less likely to do that with those niggles, ( I'm beginning to sound like an agony aunt lol). My moneys on the GT Pro! I'm more grateful than you know the video was informative for you cheers for that. Hope you have a great ride out on the bank holiday Mark, thanks for your kind comments & give me a update how you find the GT Pro :) Daz.

I currently own a 2016 BMW S1000R but considering a switch to the adventure type due to aches and pains (it sucks to get old). Bottom line it will be a decision I'll have to make but I would like your opinion. Thanks.

Hi, this is a question I am looking forward to answering...clearly your current bike the awesome S1000R is a mega bike with loads of power/torque. You just may be at that time in your motorbike journey where a transition is pending for one reason or the other. Nothing will replace the adrenaline rush of a inline 4, I have just rode tested the new Suzuki GSX S1000GT ; nice. What I'd like to think is that if & when you road test perhaps the Tiger 900 GT Pro for example you will be pleasantly surprised. Sure it's not on the same level as your S1000R but it has a perky 93bhp, 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds & a top speed of 127mph. Give it a go, let me know how you get on? Daz.

Hi Micha, if I'm understanding your message you had a reading of '0' instead of 'N' for neutral on the TFT? I haven't seen that before? Was that your only issue with the GT Pro?? (Did you speak to dealer?) On some TFT's you can change the measurement settings for example from KPH to MPH etc but never heard of 'O' for neutral?. I'm not sure what you mean by the second comment? 'Gear NR one not switchable'? All I can say is always speak to a Triumph dealer regarding any issues. My friend recently had issues with his switch gear & his brake callipers were causing his brakes to stick! He took it to a BMW dealer & hey presto they changed the switch gear & fixed the callipers. This bike is one of the most reliable in the world, yet there was mechanical issues with it....why? Well at the end of the day it is mechanical & sometimes for one reason or another, things can go wrong.
