For anyone wanting more accurate info and details, please see 'The Triumph Tiger Cub Bible' by Mike Estall and 'Triumph Singles' by Roy Bacon. That said, here, I just gloss over some of the differences and specs that set some Tiger Cubs apart from others.

At the age of 64 now, I still have a "67" T20M that I bought from my buddy's older brother when I was 13.. it was a little beat up with a puttied up teardrop tank w/o badges or knee pads, no mudgards or skid plate, a spoon seat and no handlebars or controls, he also put a Mikuni carb on it. I loved the bike since first seeing and hearing him run up and down the roads and back fields. After begging a few years while it got more beat up, he finally sold it to me for 200 bucks (took all summer to beg, barrow, steal, and cutting lawns) but finally bought it in September. I slapped it back together with honda, Yam, or any parts I could find to be ridable as quick as I could, even using highrise Schwinn bicycle handlebars that are still on it along with the same spoon seat and molded tank. Started riding it w/out a tag or drivers license. (It was easy outrunning cops just by ducking through a few yards)))) Had it for less than a year and kept getting gas at a station two blocks away till one day while filling up, old-man Frank (the owner) came out and told me there was the exact same bike left in one of his rented garages in the alley behind the station that someone defaulted on the rent. He gave me the key, told it was full of junk and said if I searched and found it, I could have it. My excitement hit the roof and ran right back to start digging, frantically from the left and right yanking out boxes till I could finally partially see a tail light through a small hole of junk. At first I thought it might be a 250 as they were more popular road bikes at the time. I ripped my way into it like a madman and realized it was in deed the same "67" M bike as mine but all original except a bent pilon foot peg and torn seat, and the speedo only clocked up to 2100 miles. I ran right back to tell old Frank I found it and said, ok kid, now throw the junk in the dumpster and get that thing outta my sight unless you're coming here to get gas)))) I pushed it home, put in fresh gas and it started and ran on the 3rd kick. To this very day I still have both bikes, one customed out painted black. It took a few months to find but got it all tightened up w/ nos seat and foot peg. The old girl is still shiny, gleamy and dreamy... I call them "him & her))) Here in the US, Harleys were always the big end-all but I never could leave the beauty of the Britt's sound and power ..The Cubs are amazing little bikes in every way

Hi Paul, thank you for a great video. I bought my cub in 1973 for £60. It arrived home from Newcastle in the back of Dads van. It had clipons,Ali mudguards a spotlight for a headlight, All ali head and barrel square finned, points on the side.T 20ss 9.1 piston, sports cam. "It would catch pigeons". It also came with all the original tin ware fully vallanced mudguards, bikini side covers headlight nacelle and light. I blew it up one day cos the oil pipe under the engine rubbed against the frame and was holed lost the oil and she seized. So when I rebuilt her I put all the original gear back on. She looked lovely went like a little sowing machine. Parted with her to buy a 1974 Bonnie to go to France and Belgium on. Then along came a BM. Got that out of my system. Now ride a 59 R.E.Meteor Minor. would like a Venom and will eventually get another Cub "once bitten forever smitten"

I bought one for 42 quid in Keighley in 1963 and passed my test on it at Harrogate... It felt noisier and more powerful (at the time), than the Kawasaki 1000 SX 145hp, 160mph that I had a couple of years ago... The front sprocket on the cub was almost round with wear !

Thanks for showing us some of the differences in the cubs. I've just come into possession of a 1967 T20M Mountain cub. All original and in great condition. I think the Mountain Cub is a combo of many parts like your sports and trials cub.

Fond memories of my first bikes. I bought a good running one in 1970 for £10. The following year my Dads pal sold me two bikes for £12! Learned so much from stripping them down and keeping them going. Unfortunately, not as fast as my pals Lambretta SX200 which was hard to bear but prompted me to buy a T100 which saw him off if only just. Certainly sounded better.

Have had 3 Cubs in my life. Trialed a t20t . One thing i found out is that you can enlarge the oil inlet...fitting and half ... so that the oil pump gets 20% more volume. This makes one hell of a difference in heat relief. A Cub Guru here in Canada showed me this.

I had my first of three cubs in 1965 and it served me well whilst journeying from Brecon to university in Cantebury for three years. In later life i delved into the pit of uncertainty and got pretty frustrated at the tempremental nature of the later small beasts.which I would probably have mastered had I had access to your problem solving expertise. As an avid subscriber to motorcyyle news I recall the Triumph factory acknowledged the fact that they were unable to solve the mysterious electrical problems which often afflicted the type so your outside of the box mindset gives us all inspiration.

Great video Paul 👍 I bought a 62 trials just over a year ago and she's a great bike. When walking my dog an older guy who I chat to had one back in the 60's and wanted to see it, he came round and I had it on the drive and he sat on it and you could see the look of concentration on his face as he was remembering the old days, so I took a pick on my phone and later sent it to him, written underneath "Steve mcqueen eat your heart out 😎"

A nice video that one; straight from the heart. I missed out on the Tiger Cub, going from a D5 175 Bantam ( SMIDSY'd) to a '61 350 Royal Enfield Bullet. I like your stories very much.

Keep on bringing this sort of stuff out. I put a cub campmate in my B40;s gearbox, as it was in better shape than the one in there. Gears are smaller in the cub, but the change mechanism is the same apart from the cub's gear indicator.

I think the wee Cubs hold a special place in people's hearts as they were very often the first road bike many young fellas owned at a very special time in their lives. Nostalgia and all that. And to me they always had a 'sexier' look than the C15s and the like. Unfortunately Mr Honda came along and spoilt the party!!!
