From buying to owning and improving the Triumph TR6 this series aims to give you all you need to know for living with this British classic icon.
In this episode we look at whats involved in an unleaded cylinder head conversion and refitting the head to the 2500 6 cylinder TR6 engine - from fitting the head to restarting the engine

Great video, although it must have been pretty tricky balancing the carburettors when you have fuel injection 🙂

LOL, well spotted. you'd be amazed what you can do with a carb balancer :-)

Great video, interesting to note the seal on the valve guides beneath the springs - can you please elaborate more on the seals? Assume, this is a new addition, not originally fitted? Thank you

Thanks for the comment and feedback. The valve guide seals are indeed an addition, to fit them then had to have the existing guides machined down in diameter to allow them to fit under the inner springs. Not sure which seals they are fitted here although ive read and if you research the net, land rover valve seals are used successfully by some

Would love to hear how you find the seals in the future, although if they do their job as expected I wont imagine you taking the head off for a very long time! Where did you purchase the Payen head gasket? All major suppliers in the States have no inventory and backlogged for months.

It came from Rimmer Bros. I think i got lucky around 8 weeks ago when they had stock. Thanks for watching

Hi, I've just purchased a TR6. Really enjoying your video series for learning about upgrades. Is there any way to find out whether the head has had the unleaded conversion already? If there isn't, should I be using a fuel additive 'just in case'? thanks

not really unless the PO gave you a receipt or verbal confirmation. for the cost of a head gasket you could look but its not worth the effort unless needed. id go for the lead replacement additive until you can be sure one way or another but as you'll see from online forums the debate is if it is actually worth bothering with for the miles these cars now do typically. your choice.

Hi again, have you considered doing a video on electrical upgrades? Looks like you have done some on your car. Apart from headlight relays, is there any others you would highly recommend? thanks.

Yes, i should do really. the car uses a blade fuse box so has been upgraded to split out some of the circuits + the fuel pump has its own relay as the bosch fuel pumps draw big amps so need splitting out. other than that its standard. the challenge is to make it safe, bring it upto date without creating a spaghetti wiring mess under the bonnet going relay mad unnecessarily. ill add it to the list of summer videos :-)

Thanks for the comment and feedback. The car has 83K on the clock so is getting on a bit now but runs really well and is good for a good long distance day out

No they seemed to be in reasonable condition. Refurbishing the top end has pretty much eliminated my oil burn problem :-)
