Many moons ago now I well remember Tony Pond in the Lombard RAC Rally in one of the BL V8 TRV's (The team also run V8 Sherpa vans BTW) On a section in the Welsh forestry early one morning, we were spectating a _loooong_ section you could see for about 3/4 mile …. It wasn't a straight but a series of small left/right bends Two or three Mk 2 Escorts came through, a Toyota and a Pug ... Then it sounded like the new Blitzkrieg had started in the early morning mist of the forest ... Nope, here came Tony! Everyone else had 'sawed' through the bends … Not Tony Pond … He literally picked a straight line, flat out with with zero change of exhaust note .. He went down that track like _poo through a goose!!_ A great guy and IMO much under rated driver who passed away, way too young (RIP) .. But his shenanigans that day, they are locked into my memory :o)
