Look into re engineering the alternator bracket to have the part where you have tacked on the washers, thick enough to be tapped and threaded. You then don't have the pain of using 2 spanners to get it all tightened up. No nuts, just a lock washer. It looks as if you will have very limited adjustment so I can imagine your problem with belt size. A length of cord should get you very close to the correct measurement but V8 converters should have it figured out by now. Good luck from sunny Kent. Commented before viewing your next upload.
