Hot tip: there are a bunch of technical arguments for when to use and not use commas, but the simple version is that you use a comma whenever you pause mid-sentence. If you think of writing like music, a period is a full rest and a comma is a half rest. If you can figure out diction, or just sound out a sentence, you'll know where commas are supposed to go.
