I don’t play any instruments but I do understand how much skill and effort this takes. The scary part about Alex playing is he makes it look so easy and that it’s just natural for him to pump out such a thrashy style. To use all four limbs in unison at all different paces it’s remarkable. I envy him and hope to god that they keep him. He is their biggest asset.

His creativity is just on another level. I mean, the speed and precision is one thing, but I’ve just never seen a metal drummer move in the way he does. He just seems to use his kit in an entirely different way and be so much more creative than any other metal drama that I’ve seen, it’s incredible how he doesn’t try and hog the spotlight, but at the same time manages to put the most creative beats down throughout the entire song. I love watching these videos of Alex because it just gives me such a great appreciation for what he does. Thank you Alex

Love how he doesn't pretend he's in constant pain like a lot of metal drummers who are just acting for the cameras. He's so relaxed and has immaculate technique. Not a lot of arms above the head nonsense. And of course - drumming is easier the more relaxed you are. It seems counter intuitive but it's true. The more you muscle it out - the slower you go.

Having that "painful" look on your face while playing drums just happens naturally with a lot of people, myself included. Even when I am relaxed and feel good while playing faster stuff, I still unconsiously do that face sometimes. Also, have you seen Alex play live? He definitely does a lot more show nowadays, which I actually dig. After all, having a drummer just sit there without any emotion may be cool for some time, but idk man.. You can be relaxed, tight AND move a bit. No need for stick twirling or stuff like that though.

As a guitar player, I always wondered how he played the chorus! He is really doing Trivium justice without be overbearing, He knows what parts bring out the best in the song and he is humble about it. Travis is the most overrated drummer since the turn of the millennium. And wasn't really good live, towards the end he was horrendous. The reason we get songs now live that we didn't get before is literally because not only can Alex play them in the studio, but actually live too without making the band sound like shit. Can rely on him as a metronome.

His drumming talent is even one of the reasons that I learned to play the drums (aside from that being my favorite instrument to hear in music and my dad being a drummer for over 20 years). I’m the same way haha. I wanted to play drums at first, but my parents didn’t wanna have to deal with the noise of a drum set. So they got me an acoustic guitar.
