It's so interesting how people in the comments can see different meanings to this song! As for me, I honestly thought it was about two people, who once were lovers, and then had a bad break-up. One of the two decided to abruptly end the relationship because of some mistake the other person did (probably cheating, but could be anything), and now refuses to have any contact with the ex ("It's easy to be right when everything repeats/ It's easier to cut us down and point at our defeat"). So I imagined that the narrator of the song would take the part of the person who has made mistakes, and is now telling to the once significant other that running away from him and forgetting about him is not the way to solve the problem they had ("You always walk away / Soon you'll have to face it / Your distance from reality won't bury or erase it"), but if they want things to get better somehow, they also need to be ready to face the situation just like the narrator did with their own mistakes ("I tried to do the same / Living so complacent / But the problems wouldn't go away / So I turned around to face them"). Despite the critiques he's giving both to himself and to the other, the narrator is now wishing to find a compromise with the person he once was with, hoping that maybe one day they won't hate them anymore ("What will it take/ To rip the heart from your hate?"). Probably no one will ever read this message, because when it comes to talking about stuff I like, I talk too much. I just felt like sharing my own interpretation of the song X'D
@DanielSYT6 жыл бұрын
That's a really cool interpretation you have there, it got me thinking. At least it seems like people break up much easier than before, even over some little things that could be solved with just a bit of talking. It's surely still much better than it was before when the woman might have been forced to stay, without her free will. I could go on for a while, but I'll just say this. I think a lot of people really lack the emotional intelligence and empathy, both needed in a long-lasting relationship. I'm not sure if it's caused by those "devilish" mobile phones or something else, but the world is surely becoming more and more egocentric. Everyone thinks just about themselves and I don't think it'll be good in the long run. But you had a great point of view for sure, I just wanted to add some of my thoughts to it.
@akaikitsune06276 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you liked my interpretation! (And gosh, thank you so much for taking the time to read it XD) Yeah I definitely agree with you on pretty much everything you said! It's true that it's more and more less likely for relationships to last longer because people tend to be less forgiving and empathic towards their partners (but also towards others in general). I mean, it's definitely right to think about what's good for yourself, and if you're with a person that keeps hurting you or ends up making you feel more bad than good then it's definitely better to let go. But at the same time, we're just human, everyone makes mistakes and each one of us has their own flaws. Nobody is perfect, but way too many people don't seem to really acknowledge or understand it. Plus, by being more forgiving after all you can live in a more healthy way, not only with others but also with yourself. It's way better than keeping hatred and grudges over time. Oh don't worry that's okay! It was nice to read your thoughts on the matter! ^^ And I actually feel happy and honored that my own interpretation of this amazing song got you thinking! XD
@DanielSYT6 жыл бұрын
@@akaikitsune0627 absolutely, you have to accept yourself as you are and the fact that no one is perfect, not even you, before you can accept others as they are. I think that might be the biggest reason for bullying: they bullies haven't accepted themselves, so they decide to bring down others to make them feel maybe a bit better, but not for long. And that might be caused by problems at home or something else.

He does have a good voice in metal not a lot of people can match Matt's vocals but I do agree he has one of the best voices in metal but that's just because I don't listen to screamo anymore. But they have some good songs Daniel so if you want you should check some of their other music out that's just some advice if you really like Trivium.

I think this song is about fighting your true demons. This song itself had explained me more than even my friends could. With the line “Dig below the surface and find your insecurities” felt as I was talking to my true self that I hid from others. Even the girl I fell in love it. More people didn’t realize how much of a monster of myself that was under the shell. “Maybe you were right, maybe I was wrong” The song stuck a needle in my back. I told myself that I would change. I would soon get over myself and find myself changing in two days. Of course the girl I fell in love with would soon mention that she had always liked me. This song to ME describes, fighting your demons in a way of changing yourself

That's a really interesting analysis... Yeah, after all, everyone's biggest enemy is themselves: until you can find the peace with yourself. That requires some difficult discussions with yourself, but the ending result is absolutely worth it. I don't think I'm there yet myself, but I've seen some huge improvements over the last couple years, it feels great!

Such powerful Lyrics!! They resonate a lot of deep meaning, just stating the obvious, but it cannot be understated!!!
@DanielSYT7 жыл бұрын
+Omar Quintanilla I agree! I've been thinking that they could just be targeted to those people that gave up on Trivium when they went through the period of Silence in the Snow and stuff. "It's easy to be right when everything repeats. It's easier to cut us down and point at our defeat." But maybe it's about something deeper, just the fear of change that people have. Change can be good too, like we've all noticed from this new amazing album!
@omarquintanilla6966 жыл бұрын
Daniel S according to paolo he mentioned that the lyrics were inspired during one of their tours to Tokyo where one of the brochures he was reading during flight had historical facts on Japanese-American internment camps during world war II, and it made him and the rest of trivium think to how hard it was to forgive Americans that easily profiled the Japanese-Americans that were living here In the U.S. when they had no involvement or knowledge of Japan's actions against the U.S. (Pearl Harbor), but we're easily looked as if they had direct involvement simply because they were Japanese. I feel this speaks truth unfortunately about our Muslim friends not only in the U.S but abroad. Although the lyrical meaning, absolutley can be placed in any situation with such intensity and unfortunate conflict.

To be honest, I'm a bigger fan of Euro and Japanese power metal, as well as Swedish-style death metal, and other such things. I think the style of singing doesn't quite match the rest of the music. But I still like this song so much! I first heard of these guys around 2007 or so, when I saw them live with some other thrash bands leading the concern. I like them. But it's been years, and this was the first I heard them again, and I'm impressed! They're good! I'm glad they're making it!

It may be song about bullying. It is easy to repeat the stupid things about someone who we really don't know, because someone we like don't like that person, without a consistent reason - for example a long hair in male, listening to metal, a clothing, being shy and reserved, a talent (yes, people can fucking bully you for a talent...) and else. Helping the victims isn't that easy - the people, who do that are risking their reputation in school, college. Victims of bullying are staying quiet because they don't want to have a bigger trouble. The only thing they want is acceptance, but the society doesn't accept the differences that easy. If you see bullying, please rip the heart from your hate and try to protect the victim. Maybe your reaction will shelter that person from depression and self harming.
@DanielSYT6 жыл бұрын
Natalia Maiden you know that lyrics of a song are amazing when people can see all kinds of meanings in them! But yeah, all of that is true and I've experienced it too. Fortunately I had my best friend fighting (sometimes literally) by my side...it was tough time but we got through it...I actually gotta ask how he is going again, thanks for the reminder :) And yes for sure, any little sign of kindness towards the victim of bullying can help them a lot! The worst case is when the victim is all alone with no one to help them.
