Babymetal's producer, Kobametal loves pop culture, and often inserts references to things he likes into Babymetal performances. You're right, Su-metal has an absolutely incredible voice, but the thing you don't get until you see them live to the power of her stage presence; on stage she is absolutely mesmerizing and it's kind of overwhelming. Metal Kingdom is one of my favourite Babymetal songs, because Su just gets to let rip and unleash her full power. I was actually at this performance, so one of those waving hands doing the fox sign is mine. I was in the pit yelling "ooh ooh ooooohoh" with the rest of faithful. It was an amazing show to experience live. The outfits they were wearing for this performance are a special outfit they only wear for this song. On the three occasions that Metal Kingdom has been performed as the show opener, they have been the only times they have worn these outfits on stage. When they use these outfits, they wear this outfit over their other outfits, and then switch to their normal outfits for the rest of the show. You're absolutely right that the crowd is part of the show. When you go to a Babymetal show, you aren't there to watch, you are there to be a participant in the performance (which can be a bit exhausting). The crowd interaction is an integral and intended part of Babymetal's performance, which is why we always recommend that people watch/listen to the live performances and not the studio recordings because Babymetal are only truly in their element in front of a live audience. Of course, the only way to truly get to experience Babymetal as intended is to be there live for the performance.

Still: we all hear the studio version first. Then when we love the song, there are many great live versions to choose from for an even better version. But I don't think there is ever anything wrong with checking the original studio version first. Just like we all did.

Hell yeah man! This particular performance was doubly epic, as it was THE first performance ever of Momometal as an official member, with her own mic! She was “inaugurated”end of the show the day before. Also, yes, Su’s amazing voice cuts right through to your soul… 🤘🦊

Great reaction as always, thanks! Yes, I've said it many times, BABYMETAL got my attention initially because of the band and the music but I became a die-hard fan because of Su-metal... and not only for her singing voice but also for her way to perform live and that includes many small aspects we often overlook. It's really hard to explain. Very happy you did this version because it's waaaaay better than the one they have on their official channel (which has the studio version of the audio). I'm very fan of the second verse, that part with only the chants, Su's vocals and some drums accents. It's a freaking work of art. And yes, their live performances and specially these big format shows in Japan are kind of a once in a lifetime experience... Although I experienced it twice and I hope to do it again. 😁 🤘🦊

Apparently, the 'spears' are tuning forks. When rung and placed close together, tuning forks begin to resonate together and match their frequencies, an excellent metaphor for the ladies and their performances.

Have listened to the song a few times, but this version brought me to the brink of tears. The live sound, the way Su-metal brought it out, surprisingly or unsurprisingly, could invoke such emotion. I am on lunch break at my office, and just needed some friendly familiar sound/song, so I opened youtube, and your reaction pops first. Never thought I needed this. Thank you.

Thank you for playing this version of "Metal Kingdom". IMO this version is vastly superior to the official mv of the same song. Much more power, more epic. This version is like a volcano erupting. Great comments and one thing you said really hit a personal note with me. I adore the Japanese enunciation of English. There is something so charming and almost mesmerizing about it. I could listen to the BM ladies speak English all day long. Great reaction again and so glad again that you went for this version of "Metal Kingdom." This is the new standard right here.

Great reaction. This was the opening song for the second night - Clear Night - of the BABYMETAL Begins concerts on 1st and 2nd April last year. Clear Night was when they became a trio again - the "new" BABYMETAL - for the first time in about 5 years, so this was also Momometal's first song as an official member. The costumes were for this song only, the epic opening to the concert. Also this song was the first track and the intro for the album 'The Other One' which they had just released and these shows were where they debuted all the songs they hadn't played yet ... they had opened their BABYMETAL Returns concerts in January with this song - but Momoko was not yet Momometal, so in the January shows it had been just Su and Moa performing it. You are absolutely right about Su-metal's vocals, there is a quality that makes her voice stand out and so special. Moametal's and Momometal's backing vocals in this (along with their pronunciation of those English words) is also so pleasant on the ear.

Su is an exceptional vocalist. Versatile, nuanced and powerful. Yet extremely expressive and gentle when required. She raps too. You don’t need to understand Japanese to know what she means. Su & Moa are pretty good English speakers, Su is virtually fluent. Momo studied English so I assume she’s good too but I haven’t heard her yet. Moa & Momo are so much more than dancers. When they get going they are phenomenal forces of nature too.

Let the Metal Kingdom come! 🙌 "NotACult" 🦊🤘👑 This is why BabyMetal is unmatchable with any other Japanese artists, they're top notch worldwide. Many others are finding Game Of Thrones resemblance on this stage setup, it just looks insane. The girls are carrying some kind of trident similar to the Spear Of Destiny or Lance Of Longinus from Evangelion anime series, if you know MoaMetal you know you gotta be careful with her. 🔱 Here's some official info about this song: METAL KINGDOM (THRONE) "It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning." The live premiere of this song was held in January 2023 at Makuhari Messe, they held two big live shows returning to the stage after almost two years and by far they met up my expectations with that epic live performance. In that version SuMetal and MoaMetal were the only ones on stage because MomoMetal wasn't announced as an official member yet. There's also a dance choreo version performed first outside of Japan during this recent World Tour and some fans witnessed this even more gorgeous performance, later they did it in their own country at an exclusive show only for fans. They were rocking the Europe & UK Tour last months but so far this song wasn't part of the setlist, we'll see this year, still fans were enjoying a lot of new songs and some other hits they brought back for this World Tour. The official MV is a live proshot version at Makuhari Messe but with studio album sound, we already got a live sound version with the WOWOW broadcast and the released DVD/BD version of BM Begins The Other One live at PIA Arena MM 2023, now with the three girls together on stage which is the version you just saw. Also every show since this one in April 2023 was with the Western Kami Band. We got so many big news and announcements back then for these live shows in April 1st (Fox Day) at PIA ARENA MM Yokohama, if you remember MomoMetal was the one blessed by the Fox God as a new official member. Also they performed with a new BM mirror unit coming from another world of this metalverse, they got new songs exclusive for them and recently they posted more shows for next month. I'm a relatively new fan and have not been to any of Su-'s live singing in her teenage years, but I think Su-'s singing has become more technical than when she was a teenager. That said, her singing might no longer be as powerful as it was in her teenage years, but I'm happy with it. I'm a Japanese who has never lived abroad and I'm not very good at English conversation (listening and speaking), but does it mean that 'fist' and 'feast' are different in the pronunciation? That's difficult, haha.

i would say that it is actually more powerful (certainly fuller). i think what you are hearing is that she is just more disciplined with it. she was probably straining herself when she was younger. also, yes - "fist" and "feast" are different vowels ("fist" places the tongue less forward, with smaller mouth movement ; "feast" spreads the mouth like a smile, with the tongue more forward). but most sensible people understand that some of the phonemes are formed differently , thus a different sound (similar to the "R" and "L" flip). but no worries - languages are hard, because retraining the ear and the tongue is difficult.

@@Double_J_48629 I appreciate to point out the understatement about me. I'm not quite there yet with my English writing ability either. And thank you for your English pronunciation tip. I don't believe that Su-'s singing ability has 'absolutely' dropped in the strength compared to her teenage years. I believe her overall singing ability is better rather now as you said. But I think I might have expected too much. For example, after watching many of the live videos of 'Legend 1997' or 'Budokan 2014', and reading many of the comments from the old Mates in Japan about how her vocals penetrate their brains... When I went to see BM's live shows for the first time in 2023, and it was like, 'Um?', I thought. That's my honest impression, but that's just I have expected too much. (The first time was in 'Returns'. It seems to have various opinions from Mates in Japan about the live shows at that time. After those 'Begins' and 'Legend MM' have been better for me. As for this 'Metal Kingdom' too, I heard it live on the first day of 'Returns', and although I didn't go to the second day of 'Begins' live of that video, I think that 'Begins' is better than 'Returns'.) The above was also honest. But please don't get me wrong. I am still a big fan of BM and I was originally made a fan by Su-'s vocals.

Your English is great. Do not second guess yourself. I love Su-Metal’s younger and older voices. In my opinion, Su-Metal’s is more deliberate, or accurate in English pronunciation today. That isn’t surprising after hundreds of overseas concerts. Her range has also increased, at least in the low notes. My favorite vocalist.

Yes, Su is amazing, but it really peeves me that reactors NEVER recognize Moa and Momo's vocals. They are amazing vocalists in their own right. They have each sung lead on Headbanger and I strongly suggest you check out these 2 videos. I think you'll realize that they're much more than dancers and support vocalists.

Based on her performance during Headbanger Moa seems to be a really good singer. I wish she would sing more songs, but I think she said in interviews that she doesn't really want to, so I guess that's it. It's still a shame her live voice isn't used more often. Momo's singing ability is... well, okayish I guess. At least based on her Birthday headbanger recording. She sounds very cute, though, which makes her growls even more impressive.
