when that cobra hit your ship and kept hitting it. it seemed like it was snagged on the engine wing. wonder what would have happened if you were able to jump with that ship wedged there.

I love the clipper. Got mine boosting to over 530 M/S and that's fully kitted out. No large ships can get near it.

Viper is a fighter, Cobra is multipurpose aka not a fighter. Viper has the same hardpoints but with better hardpoint placement, and has more shields. Plus the Cobra is a bigger target. So I'm not really certain on what you mean when you say that the Cobra has better damage potential.

I have to butt in on the "cobra has more damage output" part. Cobra mkIII and Viper mkIII have exactly the same power distributer and exactly the same hardpoints, so if anything their damage output is exactly the same, however because of the better maneuverability of the Viper I would say the Viper mkIII actually has a higher potential as far as damage output goes.

It's very playable with mouse as well. Don't listen to those HOTAS buffs who have too much money in their pockets and are too lazy to practice for a little while with a mouse. Then again, I've been playing flight simulators with mouse since the early 2000s...

I think it's just a matter of "good" vs "great." So far, I've done fine using my Xbox One controller, but I'm still interested in getting a Hotas. Thrustmaster has one that goes for about $50. Still saving my money for now though. Don't need it to play the game, just want it, and I just finished buying/renting textbooks and want to avoid loading my credit card too heavily.

Srsly Generic If you mean the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS, that's the one I use, I tried mouse and keyboard, but that very affordable stick and throttle combo really makes it immersive for me....Would highly recommend :)

seeing you destroy these ships in seconds makes me want to try even harder to upgrade off of this crappy starter ship :P A question though, even though this upload was a while ago, do you really need to have the separate upgrades and stuff to make the ship good or can you just buy one and be okay with that?

Josh Aubs Very much so, upgrades really do make the ship perform. Not so much on the first few like the Sidey, Eagle, and Hauler minus the FSD and weapons but after those first ships you can really tell a difference. You can fly a lot of the fighting ships for the most part stock notably switching just the weapons on a vulture but even then its best to always go all out and upgrade the whole ship. You can always sell the components back before you sell the ship when you go to upgrade.

Hi Troa :) I know this is an "older" vid, and there's since the DiamondBack Scout, but do you still 21:08 back the Viper as you do here, for the same/similar reasons? Or will your stance have changed now? Thank you.

Hey there :) yes I do still back the viper for the same reasons. As far as effective throwaway fun nothing beats the viper. The scout does handle better imo, and has the same offensive power, but the defensive strength along with the price put the viper on top. The viper can take so much more of a beating and costs nothing to rebuy in comparison. That said though if you want to do more than just fight the scout is significantly better as an over all package. Really depends on application, price, and preference.

That's some excellent & brilliant feedback / opinion, thanks, Troa. As a relative newcomer, I'm looking forward to working my way into a Viper. Watched your stint in the Adder, and took your recommendation to watcch Kornelius B's as well -- yes, I've seen other vids of his too. There's Obsidian Ant and Chaos Wulff stuff out there too, which is pretty good, and the Scottish(?) bloke that is AdoredTV - I like some of his... +Christopher Silva :) that is high praise indeed! I'm actually subscribed to all of those guys and try to angle my content so that it isn't repetitious. Which is difficult as they all do a very good job, especially in ship reviews stepping on their toes is going to be difficult to avoid. The viper is really where I started to have any real fun in elite it's not as straightforward to build as it requires a lot of power management but it was fast, maneuverable, tough, and the firepower is intoxicating after being in a sidey / eagle. It's what I would describe as a hopped up resto mod hotrod that hasn't got the bodywork done yet. So you can just thrash it without worrying about scratching the paint.

Troa Barton I daresay, Troa, if you focus on doing it "your way" and from your perspective & experience (rather than trying not to step on toes, cuz it's bound to happen, yet of course nobody "owns" the right to create instructionals), then I'd wager you'd still come across v Genuine, which in itself provides Value -- and that will keep viewers coming in. If it makes it any easier, you can always "acknowledge" at least the fact that "many other guides" are out there, but you've just created one/some/many to give your own unique perspective. :)

+Christopher Silva very true, no one does technically and really anyone can look up the stats. But as a content provider I don't want to put a viewer in the position that the video they are watching is exactly the same as another one they just watched. That would put one of us in a position of having a video with nothing to offer the viewer. I think it's really tied like you say to my experience with the ships along with my opinion. As that is solely something that is mine alone to offer. People who are wanting to know about a ships review are wondering if it's any good and what it's good at along with someone's analysis of it as a whole. I think that's where I'm going to be focusing my attention as it would be a good way to avoid too many toes and is more my style. I really think a ship is more than the sum of its parts.

Actually I do prefer the vulture, but at the time of making this video it didn't exsist yet. But between the cobra and the viper I prefer the viper quicker to turn, stronger shields, tighter weapon grouping, and a lot less painful to lose if you blow up. Otherwise yeah currently the vulture is the king of pure combat it's actually what I was flying when I got elite in combat. I spent a few days in a couple different conflict zones tearing everything up in that little monster.
