The 2024 Yamaha MT09 is one of my favourite bikes of the year, and now the SP version is here! It costs £1,700 more, but it gets an Ohlins shock, fancier forks, and - most importantly - Brembo Stylema calipers, seen here for the first time on a Yamaha. Are they the biggest upgrade? Are they worth the money? This isn't my full review, but I think I already know the answer…

Test rode a new MT09 today, bought an SP which is due to be delivered in the next few weeks. Traded my 2019 R6 for it and couldn't believe how much more fun this bike is, it felt so much faster. The ride home on the R6 after was boring and uncomfortable 😂

For an R6 to feel faster you have to be going over 60 mph and shifting constantly. Pain in the ass, also you're well aware how deeply uncomfortable it is.

The first MT09 with accetable looks, just need a front light transplant. When testing bikes to replace the SDR1290 (gen 3), this was high on the list, but the Monster 937 SP had a more nimble and fun chassi. so that´s what I bought. But, as a long time "liker" of Yamahas, I would have been very happy on a MT09 SP also (aftera face trensplant).

I have it on my bike. Is it a must have? Maybe not. Do I love it and hate my car for not having it? Absolutely. Key in the pocket, never have to think about it, never need to take it out for refueling. 100% first world problem though
@mrcintheuk4641
@mrcintheuk4641 Ай бұрын
I believe the point is you don't have to put a key into an ignition switch. The benefit of having keyless ignition is you can search your pockets trying to find the fob and that you need to ensure to keep it in a Faraday bag when not riding to ensure those nasty people with those aerial thingy's don't clone the key.

Ha, I am in a similar situation. I have an XSR700 and can't decide between the MT09 (which I have ridden) and the XSR900 (no demo bike available). I am a bit unsure though, I like the XSR. Do you feel it is too slow or why do you want to change?
@ChaseLancaster
@ChaseLancaster Ай бұрын
@@thorstenkochling4750 Nope! I actually only have around 3k miles on it so plenty more life to live with it. I’ve just always wanted a 3 cylinder engine and triumph is soooo nice. But I know I want my next bike to have all the bells and whistles like quick shifter and what not. If I were to go to another Yamaha it would probably be the MT09 SP because it has a little more goodies than the current XSR900s. The only thing that makes me hesitate going to an XSR900 is that it would feel (looks wise) a lot of the same. I think the 700 looks way better than the 900 but that’s my opinion of course.
