The hang tag says rosewood when it clearly is ebony(I know woods). It also has S-1 switching ,LSR roller nut. C-shape neck with a bi-flex truss rod.It is gorgeous and worth every penny.

@5000rgb3 жыл бұрын
@@bingobongo1615 A lot of the unattractive sounds are really useful in some contexts. They may not be "big" enough if you are in a power trio but in a pop band with a keyboard or acoustic guitar they can come in handy. Some of the thinner sounds can poke through the mix without taking over, like if you were to play some arpeggios while there was big cowboy chords on the acoustic guitar. Some of the duller sounds are nice for thickening the sound while still staying in the background, so to speak, like if the vocal and acoustic guitar are sort of sparse and you want to add some harmonic content and richness while maintaining that sense of space.

I had an Ultra with that exact same blue flame. Had the gold middle Lace too. The guitar felt great, and it was smooth to play. But the Lace pickups were compressed, with no air or chime. Terrible sound for cleans. I sold mine for cheap after a couple of years. After all, music is about sound, not appearance.

Fender were subject to snobby hate ,at the time. My Squire Tele from 1997 made in Taiwan was thought of as a piece of crap and now they are worth more than 20 years ago with a "traditional" 60's sound LOL. All the Lace haters thought it ruined the look and so it wasn't a real Strat . I bet they'd love to get their hands on one now.

@@madontherun The Strat Plus line is really starting to shoot up in value. My dad and I collect guitars. We only paid about $900 for the Strat Plus I mentioned. It’s a pretty rare model, but it isn’t in the greatest shape. It’s like a wine coloured sunburst finish. My dad used to have a tobacco-burst Plus Ultra (the ones that have the pearl pickguards) that was in mint condition, but it was stolen back in 2006. I’d like to think we’ll get it back one day lol But anyways… Never let snobby ass jerk-off guitar players make you feel that a guitar isn’t good based on the way it looks or the brand. Coincidentally, I just bought some cheap ass Series A guitar. But only because it had three gold Fender Lace Sensors in it (the ones made specifically to be put into a Strat/Tele Plus) I was just gonna take them out but it actually ended up being a pretty cool guitar , so I just left them in…… for now lol But yeah , regardless of sound , Lace Sensors just look cool as hell. I’ve always thought these were the best Strats ever made. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find a decent second-hand one here in the U.K. so I had to make my own version...I picked up a Fender HSS ‘Elite’ model a couple of years ago (the ones with the Ebony boards) and changed the pickups to Lace Sensors. A pretty good approximation if I do say so. I may eventually swap out the nut to the LSR one. As for Lace Sensors, can’t say enough good things about them. I’ve also got an American Series strat (the old Standard) and stuck Blue/Silver/Red Sensors in it. Lots of contemporary guitarists seem to hate Lace Sensors (cause they are all vintage purists), but they can go fuck themselves, yeah?...

On the topic of strats from this era, I just picked up a Korean Squier Strat for $160 and it's absolutely killer. Guitars from this era seem to be really well made. I'm having a hard time pinpointing the year mine was made, there wasn't a date on the bolt on neck and the electronics cavity was painted over. The serial number is E921876 which either makes it an 87 or an 89 but I'm not entirely sure.
@robertshaw83714 жыл бұрын
The first 2 characters are the build date; "E" was for Eighty, and 9 was for, well, 9. Mine is labeled Fender, with "Squier Series" added in the tiny spot where USA builds say "Custom Contour Body." My S/N is CN316..., hence from '93, and the first letter (C or S) indicates assembly in either the Cort (mine) or Samick factories. Based on articles I can no longer find, this was a Quality Control experiment to assemble ACTUAL FENDERS in Korean plants in '92-3, using a container or two of USA necks, loaded pick-guards, and bridge/whammy bar units. The body is 2" Korean plywood and weights a ton, and the tuners are replaceable crap, but otherwise a very sweet piece for $175, with a POS (but loud) solid state Marshall combo and stand thrown in. A friend who owns a significant South Florida studio has an "S," and we're both keeping them forever.

Austin, I HATE you!😄 I lusted after these things for YEARS after their introduction. I even had an opportunity to play one on a trip to New Jersey to visit my sister. Her husband of the time was nice enough to take me to 8th-Street Music in Philadelphia, and this is where the Ultra was. I saw it displayed in a glass case, and as soon as I did, I just went, "Aawwhh" ... you know, that "I want that" sound! My brother-in-law noticed and kindly offered to find a sales clerk to let me access the axe, but I wisely declined. They displayed the price for the guitar: $1500 ... a truly princely sum that was ENTIRELY beyond my means, then and now! I knew I'd love the guitar and couldn't buy it, so I passed so as to save myself some frustration! I recently got a chance to semi-replicate another guitar I lusted after but couldn't buy (Yay, me!), but I'll never be able to replicate that Strat Ultra. Ah, memories ...😎❤️️🎸‼️

I purchased the guitar new in 2000 and back then the top was as flat as a sheet of glass, 20 years later the finish has actually taken on the shape of the quilt pattern. I was told by the dealer that the Gold series were a traditional 50's Strat sound with a little higher output. The Lace Sensors weren't really "noiseless", but noise reduced. They work quite well. Later, they came out with the Red (distortion) Silver (beefier 70's Strat sound) and Blue (P-90 bluesy sound). I kept toying with the idea of getting some of these different pickups but never did. I absolutely love this guitar. While I wish I still had other guitars I've owned in the past, I still have to say this Strat is, hands down, my fave.

I have that guitar but the blue is just slightly greener. I couldn't afford it in 1990 so I convinced a friend to buy it. He sold it to me about eight years later. My no.1 guitar.

Thanks for mentioning the lock knobs. I've had 2 of these in my shop in the past week and each of them was missing a lock knob on one of the tuners. Those things were a bitch and a half to track down to find replacements.

These Fender guitars were awesome. 87-96 Fenders or even Squiers were great guitars . The Pro Tone Models, Ultras, the elites and the plus. Fender were at the top of there game. I loved the sound of the Lace Sensor pick ups. I had a light blue 1990 Fender plus great guitar sold it, had a Squier Pro Tone Black sold it. I wish I never sold those guitars. I have a squier e series Japanese and a white Fender Pro Tone with Lace Sensor pick ups great guitars.

I bought a 40th anniversary aluminum Strat in 94 when working for MT Band, Got it for $680 with case with band discount, sold in 2014 for $3500, think I got the good from that one. was a cool guitar, only played in sweatpants or pajamas, LOL may be able to find a batch of pictures , I will look!

This is a pretty cool guitar and the bridge tones were really good. However, the neck pickup has got to go. As you said, it sounded too modern. It didn't get that compressed/poppy strat tone. It was more of an ill-defined mud machine up there. That was sad, because otherwise I would consider hunting one of these down.

Kinda surprised to see you still have it listed on reverb after the review. Are there any guitars that you get it and just can't let go of after getting it? Or is that just reserved for like if you score a 59 Paul or a 54 Strat?

I've never tried Lace Sensors stock in a Strat, but I do love them in the Tele and Strat clone I modded. really cool!

Lol, i own 5 of them, and some ive been playing them live since they left the factory. This one you have is really in mint condition, comparing it to some of mine. But, i love all the scratches, bumps, and what not. To me it tells a story and the guitars seen a lot. Would be fun if you showcase one of mine :P i wonder what you will say about them :D But hee, no Murphy lab nonsense, but the real deal of old age and playing a lot :D

My best friend had and still has a strat plus deluxe with the natural ash body and the aluminum looking LSR roller nut. They apparently were famous for the nuts buzzing when the inside roller part got worn out. He replaced it himself no problem though. It's a beautiful guitar.

I found you because of this video about a year ago, been a fan ever since. I did buy the strat plus used

I have a few of these, love them. They stay in tune like no other strat. That tremsetter was factory on some, absent on others for some reason, supply issues i would guess. The deluxe plus is the same setup but without flamed top for those who like solid colors. If you don’t like lace sensors, buy a loaded guard with pups of your choice but i would advise leaving the original pickguard assembly intact for resale.

Amen brother! I have a 96’ and it was the best purchases I’ve ever made. Mine still looks new with sunburst flame top. LSR nut. A pain to restring but a killer guitar and very versatile guitar.

I’ve always promised myself an old strat ultra ,I’ve been aware of them for years and I’ve been told by experts that they were some of the best strats that fender have produced ,il get one of these or a plus or maybe a fender Eric Clapton signature

Ill take my 87 62' RI over this thing in a heartbeat, serious one of the worst sounding strats ive heard lol only was it until you turned up the TDX control did it sound less than horrid

That hip shot is awesome. As long as its setup right. I only have one of my 30 guitars with a trem that is NOT blocked. I have this on that one. G&L Legacy 1993 3 bolt. Trog, ya gotta review some G&L's. Not enough people know about G&L and these are Leo perfecting his original designs. So if you had issues with a Fender Strat, check out a G&L and you may fall in love. I think they are much better built than current Fenders and they cost a bit less for a US made guitar. Id love to see you check out the new Skyhawk. That to me is the ultimate stratish style guitar. :-)

An ebony fretboard makes a big difference to your playing compared to rosewood,your fingers just slide over the board like glass,if I built a custom strat it would be pretty much the same that but i would add the Eric Clapton mid boost circuitry to it
