Spring Run Stripers Second outting of 2024
Don't forget we have a website for all the fishing information you will ever need for your adventures and I cook everything I catch:

Well Spring has sprung and the water is slowly warming up but still very cold. Delta Stripers will be roaming the usual spots in search of places to do their business and we will be trying to follow them and have fund catching them. It's one of the most fun times of the year since the Stripers during the Spring are healthy, agile and aggressive making the bites intense even for the smaller fighting fish.
We searched Decker Island, West Bank, Fraser Shoal, We just could not get them to bite in the morning.
the Westbank at least for our outting produced nothing for a second trip, strangely we found them but they would not bite us, trying multiple color lures, multiple speeds and directions, we began to lose hope they were even interested in playing with us today.
We moved to the West Island and this time only the south end was biting and only the incoming tides were biting, I have seen alot of finicky fish but wow were they unpredictable today Saturday 4/6/2024. It sure made for a battle using experience along with hat tricks and a little bit of patience, but we managed to pull it off. We did have an extreme amount of line tangles but with a crew unfamiliar with Trolling, it was a learning experience for everyone so next time we will probably handle the waters better.
Thank you for watching and see you on the water!

We had another chance to fish the Delta around Rio Vista hitting up both the Sacramento and San Joaquin. While strangely the Sacramento side was slow on this day at least for us, the San Joaquin continues to hold fish in massive numbers. You have to work through border line keepers but the nice juicy ones are mixed in there and you will have to troll up and down current to see which presentation they want. Today they wanted to bite only going with the current as all our fish was caught this way. Remember each day is different so you have to adjust to what is working and we did that. If we didn't spend alot of our day with line tangles and snags, we probably could have limited, but my guys were beat up this outting. Haha

Thanks for the comments! appreciate you stopping in to hang out for some action, glad to hear you whacked them this weekend, probably in the rain too :-) we opted to get a small break from the rain storms this time around haha. April 20th we are moving out into the Bays, Iove the Delta, that's where my roots are but boy oh boy nothing like the taste of salt water and a hard fighting fish to let you know you are alive, can't wait to make another awesome video, it's coming stay tuned and see you on the water my new friend!

in your video if you mentioned it I did not catch some info. You mentioned letting out 150' of line for 1 oz. rattle traps. I would like to know how much line to let out for the Yozuri lures and at what depth and trolling speed did you end up with to catch Stripers. Thank you. I hope you can give me an answer this morning for I want to try the West bank out of Pittsburg in the morning.

for the Deep Dive Yozuri broken back lures we used, I usually go back 150 feet and 125 similar to the 1oz rat-l traps, if you have a quieter boat 100 and 125ft should be just fine when working 15 to 20 feet of water. for me that distance can get me down to 16 feet or within strike zone because thats alot of line out. Now speed all depends on direction, remember on average the river current can flow 2 to 3 mph into the ocean so if your trolling with the current go about 5 to 5.5MPH to make the lures work at 1.5 to 2MPH give or take, your boat will be moving and covering ground but your lures are working at the rated speeds even if it looks like your moving way to fast, you are NOT, when you are trolling against the current, you will need to slow your troll down to 1 to 2 MPH cause your lures will work overtime against the current but that is a very average example but adjust slower or faster accordingly to that general rule of thumb, also, I like to troll with the current to start because you locate fish faster, when you find them than you can swing around and work against the current to see what they wnat that day, but might need to make several passes up and down to see what presentation they prefer, hope that helps, any other questions let me know, good luck on your trip?

Dont troll much for stripers, and have not used these but have you tried side planners? would they work on the deep divers?

The reality is this, while there are use cases im sure of it, the way we fish in the delta with snags and having to reset alot with debris, it might not be worth the extra headache. I suppose in a clean water environment with no debris it might be useful. I am only mentioning this because of our experience without planer boards. While the Planer boards sound like it could be useful, im not sure not for our trips that it would bring value to us the way we fish which includes snags and constant clearing of debris. But.....they would absolutely work with any lures including deep as they are designed for this but again, resetting lines is a common occurence so adding extra layer of complexity could be more of an annoyance than it's worth, remember this is purely based on experience with snags and debri resets

Well, we started at Decker no fish, then shot over to the West Bank no fish water was low and hardly moving, lots of fish migrating under the boat and none were wanting to take our lures, didn't matter the speed or direction, it was an odd fishing day for sure, We all blame it on 2 days before the Eclipse lol cause indeed the fish were not interested in any offerings from us when they usually are alot more playful. We moved way more than usual on this day to locate Fish that wanted to play with us, Bummer on your outting, hopefully next time you will get em! Good luck next time.

You troll with or against the tide?
@24ksportfishing
@24ksportfishing 4 ай бұрын
I always try to mention this in the video and in the pinned but, we trolled both with and against because you never really know which presentation the fish want on any given day it's pretty dynamic. All our fish were caught Trolling with the incoming tide today, this means we were moving around 2.5 to 3Mph, with the current means our Lures were working from 1 to 1.5Mph. Because of the water temps are still cold, they wanted it slower and we were sneaking up from behind them when they are facing the current so I am sure this annoyed them enough to strike as the Lures slowly passed them up giving them a chance to be more aggressive toward our Lures, hope that answers, thanks for commenting

Gotta always stay positive, when fish won't bite but you see them and you know you do, It will take some kind of inpiration to encourage them to take the bait, don't give up on what you see on the sonar, sonar is Truth :-)
