Lucky Strike makes an amazing lure for lake trout called the “Half Wave” It is our GO TOO lure (at Frontier Fishing Lodge) and it catches A LOT of BIG LAKERS! Trolling those big Sandy flats at the outflow of the Thelon is a dream - that’s BIG BIG fish country!! I would love to troll some BIG white streamer flies across those flats in 10 ft of water or less in the evening..Keep living the dream!!’ Great video as always!!

I haven't put in much time fishing the shallower aspect of the flat. I have noticed the bite is in full force right on the break of the 12-22' break in the golden hours of 6-9 pm. Perhaps when it slows around that 9pm mark I should come up shallower!

I would imagine they would die if you were getting your hands up in their rakers they'd die in less time than that but with these bigger lake trout, if you know what to avoid, you can come absolutely nowhere near any of the sensitive bits in their gills. The gill plate is like the perfect handle on these big mamas!

Great reels for the price! I've caught a ton of fish on them and they're holding up so far! The rods are just cheapo daiwa trolling rods that are actually holding up so well. Can't imagine why anyone would need to spend a bunch on a trolling rod. Line is 40lb braid with a 40lb fluorocarbon leader connected with a swivel.

I live in north eastern utah down in the states and we have one lake with trophy world class lakers in it and in the heart of summer when its 100 degrees they live at well below 200 feet but in the winter and early spring the fishing is amazing for them and 30 40 pound lakers are often caught with the state record being 52 pounds

Welllll I was good up until the bibs came off... the FXR gear have flotation properties. No excuse for after that. I would have a net if I could but as I mentioned, the 37.5 was having no part of waiting around to have his picture taken!! New one is on order from cabelas. Probably have it by next week. Plan carefully.....it's a somewhat high'ish altitude place.....nothing major, but I could foresee it getting mean; Canadian winds coming through Wyoming.. .. it can get rough quick. I've lived out there for 9 years or so from Bozeman to Laramie; nothing to underestimate. As I said, it's winding roads, steep, and remote.
