Trolling Motor Battery Test (LifePo4)

In today’s video, I am reviewing the Eco Worthy 50ah Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery (LifePO4). I used this battery as a trolling motor battery for my Seahawk4 inflatable boat. Is this the best lithium iron phosphate battery for a trolling motor? How long does a lithium iron phosphate battery last when powering a trolling motor? How does this battery perform as a trolling motor battery?  These are some of the questions I tried to answer with this video. Watch until the end and I will explain why I cannot recommenced this battery.

When you totally run out a Lithium battery it will shut off the BMS and not let a charge current it. You need to actually "jump start" the battery with a power pack or another battery to wake the BMS up. Then you'll be able to charge it. So most likely that was the issue and the battery shut itself off as it should. This will mostly likely happen with any lithium battery brand. Also you can buy a charger with the "jump" feature built it. Hope this helps.

What is the draw rating in the motor? I thought those were about 50amps per hr?

That is a fantastic question! we are going to be filming another video in a few weeks at the lake and I will be sure to take my amp clamp and the draw underload on the water.

New to owning a boat and looking at purchasing this battery brand. Obviously, you are using this battery in a boat, but I don't see anything on it being a marine battery. Is it safe to use on an electric outboard?

My understanding is that most of these batteries can be used to start up to 25hp outboard motors. A quick email to the manufacturer would confirm this information. Hope this helps!

Yep cause they blow up boat weights nothing. But it also probably has more resistance in the water maybe than the AL boat would ?

When you put it on charge jumpstart it any battery will work 12v and under even a little 9v it will kick it back in to charging 😃

I thought it was strange that the battery died so quickly, a battery like that should have kept the boat running a lot more. You've ran it on a traditional battery for way longer. Maybe the battery needs to be used through a few cycles until it lives to it's potential? 🤔

I am disappointed that this company will not respond. Funny that on the battery is says “10 year life span”. It didn’t last 10 charge cycles! I am super curious about the Li Time battery that I ordered. I can’t wait to test that one out!

The battery in the video would not recharge. After several attempts to reach the manufacturer (and the publishing of this video), they have sent me a new battery! Next weekend I am heading to Northern Nevada with the new battery for another test!

Quick math... 30 lb trolling motor on a 50 amp hr Lipo4 battery should have drawn 30 amps (at max). You should have been able to get an hour and maybe a half out of it. Yup bad battery. Note: you should put a 30/40 amp fuse/breaker between the motor and the battery. Good luck with the next battery.

Most 30lb use on avarage even less Amps. Mostly around ~24A (On Max Speed ofcourse) So I would suggest even 1,5 Up to 2h.

Sounds like you got a bust battery to start with i use 100ah lead battery with 40 pound thrust trolling motor on seahawk2 i get 10 miles at full power on motor for short fishing trips of 5 miles from dock n back on clyde

@@MrFredsDIY your better off with 100ah or 200ah deep cycle marine battery as 50ah will only get you 5 miles most trolling motor take 400/1000 wh so it only gives you 2/3 hours out full battery ok so it means 2 batterys n solar system of 1000 watts to do 30 miles on 1 day trip stopping to let sun charge batterys as you fish ok 🚣😃👍

Les batteries LifeP04 sont en effet censées se décharger à 12 volts jusqu'à ce que l'état de charge soit nul.
