Wow, I JUST ordered the Power Wheels gearbox yesterday from watching @LaingEj 's project, and then YOURS pops up this morning! I like how both of you guys are trying to make it look somewhat professional and not just slapping it together. Good work!

Thanks for the video. I am in the process of putting steering on a Chinese brushless trolling motor that I will be running off a Vesc.

I tried replying to your question but the system wouldn't let me. It's a Max 350 or P 350. Bought the trolling motor plus 5 lower units for a 1 person submarine project.

Nice. I have seen the P350 on AliExpress I think. Sounds like a fun project!

have you figured out how to slow the steering down? looks to me as it turns way to fast to have any control of the kayak
@Aksmaniyak8 ай бұрын
Yes, like I said in the video. You adjust the voltage. Once you get used to the joystick (like with most applications) control gets better.

I’m going to copy this but I am wondering how a limit switch could be added for either direction.

I'm sure there are other ways to do it but this was a low budget build.

What size wire are you using for the battery and the power wheels motor
@Aksmaniyak5 ай бұрын
I used 10G marine wire for the battery and 14G for the power wheels.

You beat me to it!!! Good job!! Any reason you didn’t use the ds-600 and a second ESC? I got it working but I haven’t assembled it yet. Nice thing about that set up (in addition to being wireless) is you can set the speed by changing the power output of the ESC. I’ll try to post something when it comes together. I’m having a bit of an issue opening up the hole for the trolling motor shaft. I’ll give the hole saw a shot. Note: a spade bit is not the answer🙄 😆
@Aksmaniyak8 ай бұрын
Thanks Wali! I've done the DS-600 and a single ESC can work the throttle and steering. In this case, the motor does not have a signal input that would allow me to use it as it is now. I would have to think on it. This was intended to be a simple and inexpensive build ( yeah, after I finally figured it out.).

Cool idea, but useless with this implementation if we want install this on kayak. - a rotation limit of no more than 90 degrees from the center is necessary - automatic center alignment also is necessary Without this, the actual control of the kayak will be extremely difficult and inconvenient. This can be implemented with controller like arduino and step motor in steering control. I implemented something similar with modified Haswing Cayman T. But I haven't tried it yet. If the tests are successful, I will try to record a video and publish my project in open source. Thank you for making such videos!
@Aksmaniyak8 ай бұрын
Thanks Alexey. A 90 degree maximum rotation is very simple. The depth collar can be position and modified to act as a "stop." Automatic center alignment is not necessary as has been shown using ESCs with a wireless joystick. I do not like using step motors for controls because you do not have "infinite" speed selections. Please keep us updated with your progress.
