@@alexmoraru251 quick question, when you switch from doing it with the mouthpiece to doing it with the mouth only, is your air flow and lips "placement" exactly the same than with the mouthpiece on ? I feel like mine is completely different
@alexmoraru251
@alexmoraru251 Ай бұрын
@clement20005 well...i do try to keep them the same. However, sometimes it feels like that's not an easy task 😄 So maybe some differences might occure, but it can not be "completely different" So yeah, just try to keep them "the same" - move air - pull your corners down

I've been buzzing along with this video everyday the past couple weeks and.. wow. It has become a new favorite exercise. After 2 days I already noticed huge improvements with my sound and use of air. Very thankful that i found you this year! I really look up to your work ethic and your sound.

So after a week, I honestly feel pretty good about it. I’ve always buzzed but using this a concept to further my buzz really helped. Noticed improvements in intonation, response and connection. It is a little hard sometimes to do the later exercises but I think it’s because I’ve never buzzed like that. Really happy I stumbled upon this video thank you!

Best way too find how much air you need for each register. Takes away stress and tension. That is what I find. Thanks for sharing.

I've been using this video daily over the past week or so and have notice HUGE improvements in my playing. I play euphonium more than trombone but of course it still works wonderfully. I have saved the pdf file that has the exercises written out but was wondering if there would be any way to get a file that is just the audio so that I may be able to have it saved to use it when I may be somewhere that does not have internet as I like to practice in places such as my nearby public park

i can free buzz the entire exercise. I can buzz the entire exercise. what I've been noticing recently since I've started is that sometimes i almost get a double buzz, or warble effect buzz with the mouthpiece. Any ideas on what that could be? my main instrument is saxophone, i don't know if that makes a difference or if you would know about brass/woodwind embrasure interactions at all otherwise, thanks for the video, it's been saved to my trombone playlist, and i do it all the time to encourage practicing. i don't have a lot of time since my main job is bus driving. i can do this when I'm parked or if i have no passengers, it's great
@alexmoraru251
@alexmoraru251 8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the feedback. The double buzz happens sometimes for few reasons, such as: 1. Tired chops (leave the exercises out for few days, or only focus on the low register) 2. If it happens in the middle register, somewhere between C and F (on the staff), it could be because of the air-muscle ratio. I mean that maybe it's too much air moving through not a well sealed embouchure. However, relax, and focus on getting the biggest buzz. Do not push the air, let it flow. 3. If it's happening on the higher register, it's mostly because too much tension on the lips, and too lil air. The same way, try to relax, keep the corners tight while the middle part of the lip is relaxed.
@alexmoraru251
@alexmoraru251 8 ай бұрын
Anyway, try to focus for few days only on the low register. Sometimes, making a break in the routine could bring lots of benefits. I would probably say it's because of tired chops. I don't know much about switching between reads and horns, but i do have a friend who's nailing the tenor sax and the trumpet

@@alexmoraru251driving busses is good money, a skilled job for sure. As for buzzing, I have found that the right side of my mouth is sometimes leaking air, any tips on how to tighten mouth corners? It's a similar story for saxophone, those corners teed to be tight to the mouthpiece, but the mouthpiece goes in your mouth, and you tighten to the mouthpiece and not the rest of your mouth Any tips on how to develop the lower register? What I have been doing is resting my top teeth just behind my bottom lip, which allows me to sound lower tones, but I'm worried this habit is destroying my tone and is restricting the amount of air I'm able to push through the horn. Maybe anything video or little exercise you do could help?

Dear Maestro, buzzing with the mouthpiece I can reach the high D and, after that, there's kind of a jump to the F, missing Eb and E. No glissando allowed for me. Do you have any advice? Thank you very much!

Yes, it's nothing unusual. Just take it slowly, do not rush, and positively work on cleaning it.

It's called Inspiron Spirometer Breathing Device. You can find it on Thomann, if you're european, or on Dillon, WindSong, Hickey's , if you're in America.

how do you free buzz like that whenever i try i cant even make a sound.
@alexmoraru251
@alexmoraru251 Жыл бұрын
Most probably because it's too much tension in the upper lip. Try to only say a "closed/soft" mmmm . Than "lock" the corners of the lips on the teeth, and just blow air through. If the lips are too tight/tense they can not vibrate. Find the perfect ratio between tension-air.

Do you find using your pinky on the backend of the mouthpiece to add resistance helpful? I need that for the peddle notes to speak but don’t know if that’s a crutch or legitimate tool
@alexmoraru251
@alexmoraru251 Жыл бұрын
I have seen many people using that. To an extent , i believe it does help, as far as it makes your lip vibrate and relax. However, I would do my best to using it less and less. I am trying to get control 100% of my air -> buzz , so any additional "help" only keeps me away from reaching this goal. Moreover, that resistance will never happen in trombone. So I need to practice being able to play low with lots of air.

well said. any tips on how to improve that middle register to lower register buzz? it feels like i’m just losing air right around the low A gliss to low E
@alexmoraru251
@alexmoraru251 Жыл бұрын
@@jg45fl nothing special, or crazy tips 🙂 Just continue doing these exercises, and some glises down from the middle F (for example: F-C ; F-Bb; F-A ; F-Ab ; F-G....for as low as possible.) You'll definitely start seeing improvements pretty fast. Make sure you're relaxed, lips on teeth , air !!
@alexmoraru251
@alexmoraru251 Жыл бұрын
@@jg45fl take it step by step. Start with Bb - A , Bb-Ab , Bb-G, Bb-Gb ...and so on. Make sure you're not pinching the lips, or pull the corners (smiling position). In stead think of the corners of the lips getting heavier, pulling dowwords. Practice and focus on ballancing the quantity vs pressure (air) .
