I think instead of Rose Gold statues and specialty cupcakes, maybe guests would like live entertainment, adequate cast member staffing, parking trams, Magic Express, etc. You know, customer service! Disney Magic is the cast interaction and the experience you get, not a statue or an instagram photo wall.
@zeferage24302 жыл бұрын
When we first started visiting disney, our first visit was in 1996, it was the interaction with cast members that really made the trips magical. On that first visit during a evening parade Mary Poppins stopped talked to my daughter for a few seconds, handed her some stickers and that made her trip. But in the last few times we have been to Disney, past 10 years, the interaction of Cast members has dramatically decreased to the point I think they have been told not to interact with guests.
@jefedezorros2 жыл бұрын
@@zeferage2430 I think in some ways this may be true, but also in 1996 your daughter was a little girl, and probably much more approachable for a character than a teen/adult. I am trying to decide for myself if the magic is declining or if my experience is just evolving due to my kids getting older. I do know that cast members were specifically told not to do pin trading, which was kind of a disappointment when we went in May.
@maxwellhouse7502 жыл бұрын
I think it was right around the Millenium, Disney staffers would approach small children typically in the 3 to 9 year old age and interact with them with small games, teaching them things etc. It would bring tears to your eyes. I remember one thing in particular, but both my daughters were approached at least a dozen times on our trip. My 4 year old daughter went up into the launch tower of It’s a Small World. A cast member held her up by the plexiglass so she could act like she was launching the boats and wave to the people as they would depart. Three or 4 years earlier my oldest daughter got to sing Jingle Bells in front a crowd of 30 or so people with a small rag time band just outside the building by the cafe at Port Orleans. The maid actually picked her up and held her while these talented older musicians played Jingle bells with banjo, trombone, trumpet etc. What was so magical is that even the cast felt the magic back then. We would go to the park and come back to find our newly purchased stuffed animals neatly arranged staring out the window of our hotel room. It was all those little things that made it special. These day both the guests and casts are treated as expendable so it just feels more like going to any old park.

Well said. In like 1998 I got to "drive" the boat on jungle cruise. Life altering moment, and a formative memory for my 6 year old self. Based on my last 2 trips, those types of interactions and magic have been lost, abandoned, and perhaps even discouraged 😞.

I wonder how much of this is due to a “hands off” policy or something similar. All it takes is one compliant and some thing special can disappear.
@DisHsDd2 жыл бұрын
As a CM i can say we still interact with Children all the time. Personally, I have a hands-off policy and would never pick up someone else's child. But we definitely have played games with chalk, tape, stickers, whatever we have available. Sometimes we just talk to the children and listen to them talk about their day. I might feel expendable at times, but I would never take that out on the guests. I am proud to make magic, whether the company still is or not.

I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley And growing up in the 70's and 80's I had many wonderful Disney memories that I treasure. I felt Walts presence each time I visited. I believe that Walts dream and vision should always be carefully honored and followed. It seems that darkness is engulfing everything in its path. One day I had.hoped to bring my son to Disneyland. We visited WDW 2 weeks ago for the first time since 2019. Many times over the last 3 years we would talk of how wonderful it would be when we could get back to the place we loved so much. Sadly many of the WDW standards that made us feel we were valued guests in a magical world have vanished or been altered. Our room was never cleaned, we were told to set our trash and dirty towels outside the door. Clean ones had to be requested. The food quality at FQ was not the level we had experienced in years past. Even the lovely grounds looked unkept in areas. Our days were spent staring at our screens trying to order food or get a time to ride something we paid extra for. We felt the fireworks were definitely a disappointment for all the reasons listed in the survey. For many years standing in the Florida heat, packed in like sardines we were rewarded with Wishes and Happily Ever After. People of all ages were singing along and tears were shed. It was worth the heat, the expense and standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers. Afterwards, we felt uplifted and happy to have been there. This year, we endured 15 minutes and 40 seconds of self promotion. I saw no tears and only a few murmurs of singing. I heard a lot of people saying "Is that it?" What has happened to the magical place we once escaped to?

I agree, we went about 3 weeks ago for the first time since 19 too. We stayed at the hotel (Port Orleans RS) for 7 days (went to universal for 3 days and Disney 4). Mid week we were shocked they Never came in to change our sheets, they did change our towels and trash, and our wood floor was filthy. I called them to come Actually clean our room and they told me no. They said they were not coming in for long periods of time anymore, and they would bring us sheets. I said they wanted us to change our own sheets?! They said YES! We laughed because of the ridiculousness of it, but then got mad and said no. I could Not believe that. We had friends who stayed for almost 2 weeks at the same time and they never got their room cleaned either. They did come in for a “visual inspection (whatever that is) and asked if we needed anything. I said to bring me a broom so I could clean my own floors. The guy said oh no that’s fine we’ll send someone, which they Never did. When I can go to a Holiday Inn Express and know I’m getting clean sheets almost every day (even if I have to call), and Disney who I’m paying $4-500 a night for flat out says No, change your own sheets for beds you don’t own, on your Vacation, you know something is extremely wrong. It just was not the best experience I’ve had, and I’ve been there 4 times since 1998. Also the crowds were not there either, which was nice. We basically got on everything we wanted to do with only 2 days of genie + bc we didn’t want to waste the money on the last two days of our trip. As for going to universal first, it was a much better time, better thrill rides, and overall better experience. Disney needs to take notes.

This is the first time I've answered to a comment, I've never been since 2019, 2020 I was packed for Port Orleans, Riverside, it would have been my third time I did six years at Coronado, my daughter-in-law said if my eldest son and I stayed on Disney property we wouldn't go anywhere else again, before that we had stayed on the Drive when the kids were younger, she was right, guess 2020 was unexpected, I never thought Boris Johnson would put us in lockdown now with what's going on with Disney and Reading your observations, we were actually considering Universal, then again Joe's still got to let unvax in,

We've been going to WDW since 1971. The thing that has changed the most are the cast members. It use to be very difficult to get selected by Disney as they had very high standards. Now all you need is a pulse. Disney use to honor their best cast members with all sorts of rewards, honors and special cast member only activities. Now there is virtually nothing. Look at both the Ratatouille, Star Wars and now Galaxy's Edge openings. Literal thousands of cast members and Annual Passholder couldn't get in. Tron on the horizon? Does anyone even remember that movie ? I remember the days when an Annual Passholder was able to enjoy major discounted special event nights. Now you get a tiny discount on a ticket twice the price it was only a couple of years ago. Remember Not So Scary or Very Merry XMAS for $49 AP and Cast Member nights? Do you remember the days when any new hotel opened with a free tour before the general public got to see it? Bottom line is that Disney has lost the "Magic" they use to have and have lowered their standards to being just another theme park. When SeaWorld has more to do you know something is wrong! The 50th Anniversary has become nothing truly unique or hyped like they did with past celebrations.
@haroldhickman47292 жыл бұрын
Tron was the first movie I watched when we got Disney+!! It’s still amazing in my opinion!! I’m trying to get into better shape for the ride. You speak a ton of truth. I saw they were bringing back MVMCP except the prices looked like the after hours party last year! I don’t want to pay for it this year and it’s a debate with my wife on whether or not to go this year. We have 5 in our family and it just breaks the bank now to go.
@two_another2 жыл бұрын
I’m excited for Tron lol but besides that your comment is spot on. Disney has put profits over what has made them special and heralded as the theme park gold standard and the current management is running off of their reputation and taking advantage of it by not offering the best simply because “We’re Disney and people will visit because we’re Disney” which won’t be the case much longer if quality continues to decline.
@matthewzepess57212 жыл бұрын
100% it’s become a company to gouge every last penny out of everyone. I truly like the theming of Disney better but universal at this point is a better value vacation. I hold both Disney and universal annual passes but if you wanted a truly magical vacation you’d hit universal a few days and then sea world or bush gardens the last day or two. Both want every penny but I consistently spend a fortune at Disney.

Guests at Disney theme parks are no picnic in the park, especially DVC members. You apparently have no idea of the abuse from guests that the average theme park worker has to deal with. Racial or gender Slurs, getting punched in the face, refusing to follow instructions...and those are the good ones. These workers are trained to just take it and not retaliate or get FIRED. In 1971 Disney did not have to complete for workers with Fun Spot, Universal, Sea World and all the other theme parks in the Orlando area. Not to mention all of the other businesses that are here because of Disney. Disney standards are still high. They fire a great deal of their employees and let you know when they hire you, what will and will not be accepted. Maybe parents should do a better job of raising their children, so Disney has a better pool of talent to choose from...and maybe more adults should stop acting like spoiled children the second they step on Disney Property.

For me I think the overall theme of what they flopped on was experiences. WDW holds a special place in a lot of peoples lives and memories, and instead of anything to really celebrate or be part of, they just sold some different food/bev items and slapped a 50th logo on a lot of merch. There isn't anything happening at any of the parks that seems to be grand enough for 50 years of WDW and all the history that goes into it. It doesn't feel any different going to the parks right now than it did before the celebration.

I struggled to see any pride or celebration of The Florida Project, Walt's vision for it, Roy's determination and sacrifice, or any throwbacks to rides/events/over-lays of the last 50 years of the resort. (I think Brayden's 10 year celebratory flashback was more sentimental than anything seen at the parks! - congratulations by the way!) This anniversary could have been celebrated in the OG hotel resorts, in fact across the entire WDW resort, but it seemed limited to Disney caricatures at Magic Kingdom only (besides the Vault collection - loved that).

DisneyLAND does more for their anniversaries than Disney World has. I was at Disneyland for the 50th and 60th and it was great! Gone are the days of Millennium Celebration and 100 Years of Magic. But I was really sad when they pretty much skipped over the Epcot 25th and then the Epcot 30th was only slightly better because fans asked for it.

I agree. Disneyland puts more care to the overall experience at their park in general over the years. A smaller version of Magic Kingdom but so wonderfully executed. The Fantasyland area has so many wonderful old school rides. I love Pinocchio, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Mr. Toads Wild Ride, and the Storybook canal. Pirate of the Caribbean is so immersive compared to Disney World. The only ride I can think of at Disney World that was doe a little better is the Jungle Cruise with the temple..especially at night.

I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the type of people that go to the parks. Land has way more "regulars" so they need to change things up more to get people in. World has more irregular visitors that might even be upset if a ride was changed

Year of a Million Dreams really popped off. I think that’s what I was hoping for in regards to the 50th. The 50th was extremely lackluster and feels like it was just another year, but worse because of all the changes to the park experience.

I visited the Magic Kingdom on June 22 2022, I saw two groups of new cast members tours. I enjoyed the extended evening hours. I was able to use Disney Genie plus to ride one attraction after another. I had a GREAT time!

Good for you! It’s too bad, Disney is slowly degrading in quality. Enjoy it while you still can, it’ll only go downhill.

Thanks for hearing about this!! And now, I can't wait for a sneak preview of every upcoming attractions and projects at EPCOT and Disney Parks and Resorts around the world, along with Disney Cruise Line, Auluni, Cotino: A Storyliving by Disney Community and so much more, when I'm attending on D23 Expo 2022 event on this September, except for a sneak preview of Fantasmic 2.0, featuring a new sequence with segments from Moana, Aladdin and Frozen!!!

My issue with the 50th is, I’m travelling from the UK so it’s a lot of money to actually go to WDW and when we booked in 2020 we were promised tron/guardians/ratatouille/WDWR and most of new Epcot would all be finished now we have to boom again to see all these attractions

Is the smoke coming out of the train going to mar the Tron canopy? As in, leaving soot on it.

You do the best, most informative, non biased videos. I wish you would work in a decision making position at Disney because you get it, whereas they clearly don't.

Brayden- HEA returning April when 50th “celebration” ends what do you think???

I didn’t care about the merch because I didn’t FEEL like the 50th was a big deal. All I noticed was the castle, the plantings and the new costumes on Mickey & Minnie. I know they changed some of the shows a little, but it was so crowded and waits were so long that we didn’t feel we had the leisure to hang out and watch a show if it meant losing a ride. The anniversary was a bit of a snooze. My only 50th merch is the Minnie I got in a happy meal LOL

When is the Tron ride opening? I'm going to Florida April 2023

I was into the merchandise and it was beautiful! The spirt jerseys that were 50th anniversary themed. Should have been put out as a limited amount. Then release small amounts throughout the 50th anniversary. That may cut back the E-Bay sellers.

The decor and merchandise and all of that was great, where Disney fell short was really the night time spectaculars which should have been more celebrating WDW as opposed to just Disney. I think we could have used waaaaaay more nostalgia!

Man, it feel like forever since the railroad has been closed, and with Tron’s construction. Hoping that they open up within the next year, maybe the next 18 months.

They never seam to fill the Main Guest Parking Lot to begin with, so I don’t see why expanding it is going to be of any help? I remember the 15 Anniversary Celebration when they gave away prizes, the Biggest being Cars and Trucks!

Hoping trim gets constructed before our trip in September if not that’s cool going for 1 day on our Disney cruise in late January!

I wonder if they have another celebration ready to go behind it. Maybe just for Epcot but that's gonna be something small

One of the biggest failures is the rides. Guardians of the Galaxy didn't open until months after the anniversary, Tron isn't even open yet and the most iconic classic Disney ride, the train, is still closed. Having those rides open would have helped make the anniversary special.

I’m going to be there early December, hoping to ride Tron and do one final ride on Splash. But the way my luck goes Tron will likely open the week after I’m there and Splash will close the week before.

I was at WDW for the 25th and it feels like they did a lot more. I hope these questions means that maybe they'll do more for Epcot's 40th. That would be great because I love Epcot.

We were there in December and it was miserable. The lines were horrible, the removal of fast pass was a giant mistake. I won’t go back until something changes, and we have been life long Disney world attendees. I couldn’t even tell it was the 50th when I was there. It felt like all the Disney magic was gone.
