We’re gonna need a part 2 on this one. Nice work on that connector, those are difficult. Great video as usual! Oh, and those ribbon cables are super, super difficult to repair, not sure I’ve ever fixed one of those really thin ones.

Thankyou for the opportunity! I think removing the connector on the other side and heating from the back, then putting that back FPC connector on (3 pin) would of been a lot easier!

a pop in 3ds consoles usually means a bad speaker flex which would involve a complete disassembly. you can try to open the console at different angles. sometimes it fires up and you can at least check whether the top screen is functional.

very nice video Joey, i did repairs and swapping of top/bottom screens on DSlite consoles many times and those DS handhelds (specially the ribbon cables) are very difficult not to break when taking apart and reassembly. I think you did a amazing job on the connector because it's very small to solder. hopefully we'll see a part 2 with a replacement top screen because i really am convinced you can fix this. keep up the great fixes and positive spirit.
@riparaggi2 жыл бұрын
Damn that ribbon cables are really an experience. Got same model some weeks ago, water damaged, tried an extensive IPA cleaning. Reassembled, tested... totally dead. Teardown again to inspect more but more works came out and I left all parts in a bag as spares then after some days customer asked it back, so I reassembled It again and... worked 100%. Damn :-D

replace the speaker/brightness flex cable which goes into that zif you replaced. that's normally the fault I learnt my craft on these, so I quite like threading the 3 cables through the hinge, just so you know the led brightness has to be connected for both screens (the cable I'm telling you to replace) the actual LCD does not have to be connected for a 3ds to power on. but make sure the WiFi card is connected.
@sjonkellhallvis2 жыл бұрын
When a 3DS makes a popping noise and turns off, 100% of the times it means either top or bottom backlight for the LCD's is not working. It could be because of a bad connection or torn ribbon cable, or faulty backlight. Most often the fault is with the cable that connects from the motherboard, goes through the hinge and connects to the tiny board next to the top screen where the speakers are connected. You could test for continuity on that ribbon cable to determine if that is where the fault is.

another thing to check for, if the 3ds has a b9s patch applied you need to have a luma3ds boot.firm on the root of the sd card for it to boot up

Those plastic connectors aren't for the faint of heart Joey! But great try none the less! I never have success with popping 3DS consoles. Usually it is the top display, but too much work for me at the shop & I rarely ever get asked.

You should be using a fiber glass pen instead of that grinding pen for the ribbon cable. It's what I use for controller conductive film.

the cable you needed to solder is for the Speakers and 3D slider and the itself ribbon is a common failure point on these 3ds'es including mine. the wider ones under and on top of the board one is for the cameras and the other one is for the top 3D display

Check wifi module connectors. NDSL and new 2ds XL would turn off if it is not properly seated. Or just clean all contact pins really well.. using alcohol, acetone (dont melt your plastic) or deoxit. They might be look ok but you never know....

That connector on the other side looks much easier to solder - remove this then solder the big connector from under the board using hot air!!! Then resolder the smaller connector?? but you got it anyway.

Joey, I've watched a few videos and I really am not trying to be rude, but to offer constructive comment. Have you looked at your video history? it is the same thing over and over, Xbox, Switch and a small scattering of other consoles. I can understand you may be inclined to stick to a limited amount of items due to knowledge and parts, but it might be worthwhile expanding your range a little.
@JoeyDoesTech2 жыл бұрын
Respect the feedback pal, thankyou :) I've done a few videos on different things recently, MacBook Pro and a Gameboy to name a few. The videos don't tend to do as well as my other ones unfortunately.
