Trying to Save a FLOODED Mtn Dew Xbox - This Mountain Dew original Xbox was very liquid damaged, which Robert on the Restorish channel spent a bunch of time cleaning before giving to me to fix. The first step will be to replace all the bulging capacitors, then we can see what else might be causing issues.

See what this console looked like before I got it. It was BAD! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2qWd2B7etxpfq8si=DYmgUMFJnN1oLS8b Oh, and I forgot about the controller port in the video but I just had to clean out some gunk that was in it and then it worked fine.

Most of the time the resistors on these don't cause any issues. Most of the time smd components on these don't cause problems...even the smd capacitors usually don't have issues.

@@TheRealRaddicalReggie-o9l You seem to not have a fundamental understanding of repair work, especially of older equipment. You also don't seem to watch very often. Half of Tronics vids are him doing component level repair under a microscope... Steve is not an engineer, you won't see him doing proper laptop repair because that requires almost manufacturer specific knowledge and experience. I have done component level repair on everything from patient beds up to a 32 slice CT machine. 90% of my job is simply replacing whole assemblies or boards because it's either impossible to identify or source individual components, and this is on current tech. Older tech can be even harder depending on what it is.

Back in the day when I took electronics in college (over 35 years go) We had not only the braided disordering wick, but also a spring loaded syringe. You would press the plunger down against a spring and it would lock in place. Then you pushed a trigger and it would pop the plunger out fast and suck the solder into the syringe fast. The tip was metal and it worked pretty good. I liked using it better than the braided stuff. Man I would have thrown that in an ultrasonic cleaner for an hour first.

Here in Brazil, the plates that arrive in this situation we wash with a mixture of degreaser and brasso, brasso is a type of metal polish, and then we rinse well and let it dry for at least 24 hours, helping with the thermal blower to dry, it helps a lot.

Can you do an overview of your tools and stuff one video? Possibly a beginner guide for soldering? Snagged a Pinecil iron and I love it. Your videos make me want to get back into soldering projects

Amazing its got cleaned up that well - nice job guys. Just a tip for the surface mount caps, you can use the twist method to get them off without damaging the pads (Adrian Black of Adrian's Digital Basement) is a fan of this. You then just desolder the legs from the pads that sometimes remain on the board ;-)

Very nice! One potential issue you should look into is the clock supercapacitor. The original ones have a tendency to leak on this model (not revision 1.6) and will damage the traces on the other side of the board, specifically the ones that wire the front panel to the PIC (eject, power button). The difference with the tray eject is subtle, where it just wont respond (damaged trace), or attempts but will not eject the tray (loose belt). Another issue, since you're replacing the power supply caps, is to reflow the solder at the ACin power jack, which have a tendency to crack, eventually sparking and burning the house down (Microsoft later replaced all power cords with a GFI cord, but didn't solve the true issue and exacerbated the problem)..
