You're breaking all the 4wd rules for vehicles here: NEVER set out on an expedition without first doing a shakedown run to see what goes wrong or need fixing. The Range Rover is a mighty vehicle....but a trip like this without an initial shakedown is simply asking for trouble. A new untried gearbox ??? Untried suspension, untried engine loading. Great to see this vehicle attempting the Canning. I hope it works out well. But I would not be surprised if it breaks down early in the journey. I would always recommend a dress rehearsal well before the start to ensure it shows up the inevitable issues/limitations before commencing the main event. In this case it may ruin the expedition. I sincerely hope I'm wrong! Looking forward to watching the journey. Thanks, Frank 🙂

all the rules? Really? All of them? BTW. We did do a shakedown, but not of the gearbox. Ran out of time. Stuff happens.

That defies the purpose of the Adventure and the Challenge which was to drive a Well Maintained Old Car (Driving it from Melbourne to Perth was it's ShakeDown) down the Canning. No Doubt that Vehicle, when reaching the bottom of the Canning could have quite easily turned around and gone back up the Canning with no problems what so ever.

Always a pleasure watching prep work on a old vehicle, l think the best part is knowing the weak parts and correcting them.

Great fabrication work on that tank, work of art. Handy having prior Rangy experience to strengthen the weak points.

I'm sure you're well on the journey,, if not completed by the time you read this. 😉 I hope you made the right call w/the tube tyres🤦‍♂️. RR junkies be dammed. I personally would have sprung for the longer wheel studs, run the lighter Alloys and tubeless. Just my 2cents 👌. Standing by 🙏. Cheers 🍻, G. In beautiful Boulder City Nv.USA 🇺🇲

Let us know how the tubeless radials work out with tubes inside of them....I always had concerns that when running low off road tire pressures that there would be increased internal friction and heat between the two. Hopefully this is unfounded.

so you also learned that military spec. landies has much better coponents compared to civilian spec landies,i learened that fact 16+ years ago with ex military spec series 2 landie, their gear ratios are way better

Great vehicle preparation video, but could you please explain why not the black tubeless steel rims, was it really because of the purists? I ask as you have made other modifications such as strut tower bracing, non original gear box, non period correct additional fuel tank and roof racks etc etc. Thanks in anticipation of a response.

How are the fumes going with the new tank ? Curious as to how you overcome this problem

It's not used while driving. It's used for storage of fuel only. Therefore it's only vented when being pumped, and closed when driving, no different to a large Jerry can.

Looking forward to seeing this unfold Is your Jerry split into compartments? I’m prepping for a 15 hr remote journey and had a leak in one of my Jerry cans Lucky it was not one big tank!

Baffles, yes, compartments? No.

I feel that the single, (vibration fatigue untested) bespoke tank presents higher risks than the internationally standard and individual Jerry cans. What if a leak appears early on, that's a lot of fuel to relocate before welding a repair. Also, seems two types of fuel pumps (tank and vehicle), requiring two spares? Refueling by Jerry can admittedly has it challenges, especially in the heat.

Hello Andrew, you said its sitting slightly higher, did you replace one of the front spring cups? I brought some recently for my landrover discovery 2 and 1 was a inch higher

Andrew I notice you’ve had rated recovery points fitted to the Range Rover! I have a 2004 KZN149R HiLux and cannot buy them anywhere. Any suggestions or did you have them manufactured?

It is strange that your original rims didn't work tubeless tyres. I had 2 classic and all 10 rims were tubeless. Maybe if you ask them to refurbish your rims, I clean the old pait off and repaint them with proper rim paint it will get resolved. 🤔

Thank you for the upload Andrew! I was wondering what the gvm is on the range rover and how you loaded it up within such. More a curiously of mine.

My only concern is your gearbox replacement . Assuming it was in good working order, after all this driving , I would not change it for another (even if the new type is probably stronger) without testing for at least a couple of months.
