So the triton has equal to or less problems to competitors. Is lighter and can tow 3000kgs. And it’s cheaper I wouldn’t call it budget or a lemon. It’s fit for purpose and most of us don’t have a boat weighing over 3000kgs anyway. I think it’s time you guys put it to a fair test on your trips.

Up front, I own an MQ Club Cab Triton and absolutely love it. Price point is spot on, and even the base model GLX (which I have) has plenty of useful standard features. Some points to note: The 2.4L diesel has a DPF mounted directly behind the turbo in the engine bay. Given a DPF needs high temps to "burn off", bolted to the turbo is as good as it gets for a DPF. I've never had a DPF issue and now have over 100,000km on mine. Fit a quality Catch Can though as these motors do vent a little oil vapour through the crank case. Want to tow? Mitsubishi factory fit separate front mounted oil coolers for the auto transmission. Not all of the mainstream utes in this segment of the market have separate, front mounted, factory fitted transmission coolers. Want to tow? Here's the good stuff about GVM and GCM, compared to similar age Ranger. The MQ Triton can safely tow more than a similar age Ranger. What this expert (sic) fails to understand is the relationships between GVM and GCM. While the 2018 MQ Triton has a GVM of 2900kg and a GCM of 5885kg, to tow 3000kg payload has to be reduced by 5kg. The 2018 Ford Ranger has a GVM of 3200kg (XLS and Wildtrak) and a GCM of 6000kg. Disregarding the BS 3500kg towing limit, event to tow 3000kg, the Ranger needs to reduce payload by 200kg. To attempt to tow 3500kg, a Ranger needs to reduce payload by a whopping 700kg. Safe practical towing limit for the Triton is 2985kg. Safe practical towing limit for the Ranger is 2800kg. As has been mentioned by others, 2500kg is a more realistic safe towing limit for any ute in this segment of the market. Want to tow? Here's the Triton's Achilles heel for towing: The Triton has the shortest wheelbase of all the utes in this market segment. Great for offroad and Tritons have a tight turning circle, however... Tritons (MQ and MR) have the longest distance between rear axle and towball. This does affect stability when towing, and personally wouldn't tow more than 2500kg. Impact of ball weight on a Triton is greater than for most other utes. Overall though, an MQ or MR Triton is excellent value for money, and I would buy another.

That's right. If you bought an MR new in '22, then sell it in '27, after 5 years of using it, provided it has been serviced at an authorised dealership, you can offer the new buyer the remaining 5 yrs of warranty and capped price servicing. That has got to give the resale value a boost. Old mate at the car yard is only offering 1 year on the other makes.

@@pauls3451Australian Consumer Law (ACL), which is part of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. Specifically, Section 54 of the ACL provides that consumers are entitled to a warranty for goods (including vehicles) that must be of acceptable quality, free from defects, and fit for purpose. This section implies that the manufacturer's warranty cannot be voided simply because the consumer did not use an authorised dealer or service center. The key point is that consumers can have their vehicles serviced at independent mechanics, as long as the work is done properly and parts of acceptable quality are used. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has confirmed that using an unauthorised service provider does not automatically void a warranty, as long as the work complies with the terms of the warranty (e.g., using approved parts and following recommended maintenance schedules).

People bang on about how they have a lower 3.1 towing capacity than the other utes, but to be fair, they are rated realistically and in some cases have better payload ratings. Towing capacity is an over markted parameter. Compare other load related parameters and you will see the triton is just as capable. Towing anything over 2.5T with any of the utes is a silly game regardless.

Have 2017 MQ and 180k now on it, firstly with the manifold it's not that hard to see if it's cracked, mine cracked at about 175k and Mitsubishi replaced it outside of warranty under good faith. Also had gearbox replaced for popping out of 3rd under warranty. I'm sure there are mixed experiences but every car has its issues and such good service from Mitsi goes a long way in my books. The recurring gearbox issues for some owners was because Mitsi's first go at remedy for the issue was new and improved internals and syncros in the same gearbox, problem was, it didn't fix the issue. Later they updated the design of the gearbox which solved the problem (not sure what they did but it seems to have worked). Customers that only had that problem later on got a whole new box under warranty (like myself) and so far (touch wood) going strong.

At least Mitsubishi handles their customers well - that goes far in helping people decide. Unlike Ford that has a history of selling lemons and leaving their customers in the lurch. I own a MQ Triton Exceed 2018 model absolutely kitted to the moon with less than 100,000 kms, but it’s missing a very important mod (Catch Can). It’s been a beautiful ride for the last few years, but it’s just had an exhaust manifold repaired under warranty when doing a major service worth $1300 and since then I have gone into limp mode twice with failed natural regenerations on the DPF and have since done 3 forced regenerations each costing $250 each. I have pulled off the intake and even ran some heavy duty decarboniser through the system. I’ve checked all the hoses and ran some aerosol DPF cleaner through the sensor hole to flush the system a bit, but after cleaning it, I took it out to the highway where the DPF failed its natural regeneration again. The coolant has been absolutely chomped through with the engine getting stupidly hot, but I can’t find any major leaks. I’ve reset all the codes since doing the full clean just incase it was an old code causing the DPF fault, but if it does it again I’ll need to throw it back to Mitsubishi to have them look over it with a fine tooth comb. Definitely trying to avoid replacing the DPF, but I genuinely have no idea what else it could be. If anyone has had similar issues, I’d love to hear your thoughts. (P.S I’ve checked all the fluids and filters, there was no contamination as far as I could tell and no blockages either which was to be expected since it had only just been serviced)

I have had my 2015 MQ GLS since 2019. It has 190k on it. Never an issue with the gearbox. Apparently the main cause of the 3rd gear jumping out is because people drive with their hand on the gear stick and it causes the detent spring to wear prematurely. Had my steering wheel, rear main oil seal and alternator replaced under warranty. Intercooler hose split about 12 months ago and had my front seat fabric repaired as the bolster wore through. Have done heaps of off roading and towing our 2.8t van. Been a great vehicle. I do wish it had a bit more power and not as much of a bumpy steering feedback.

I just bought a second hand 2016 MQ Exceed. Coming from an old Landcruiser, to me the Triton feels like it has plenty of power haha, I know what you mean about the steering feedback though it'd be nice if there was a bit less of it.

4:41 You do realize that you can actually get a free manual gearbox replacement from Mitsubishi right? My parents 6 sp manual MQ triton had the same problem popping out of 3rd gear. Car was out of warranty but Mitsubishi still replaced the gearbox for free of charge as it was a very common problem. They installed a 6 sp MR gearbox instead and it's been good since. Even if you purchased the car second hand, or it's out of warranty, Mitsubishi will still swap the transmission for you.

Cool that you mentioned the manifold cracking issue. We've seen a few of those. I would still get a 3.2 (4M41) Triton. Stil not sure about auto or manual. If it had a 5 speed auto like the later model 2.5 Challengers I would hands down go for an auto. I prefer a manual, but having driven so many autos as well as experiencing a handful of the manual counter parts... I can say the auto feels better. Doesn't feel like power dips when you change gears. Yes they have their issues, but when they are fixed they last a long time.

Hi all Looking for some buying advice from V6 Owners. Found what looks to be an awesome deal. 2007 4.0 V6 DC with 278k KM's. Full service history with books. Checked out the vehicle and the body looks very nice, no damage to underside so presumably no heavy off-roading. Drives well too. Brakes are a bit spongy though. One pinch point for me would be that there is a map on the vehicle for better fuel consumption, wanting to know if that will have any adverse effects on the engine? Also a long range tank fitted. Any valuable input would be useful and much appreciated, thanks a ton.

I would have got one of these if we had them just because of the warranty. I might when I get a setup in the Philippines just because they are a dime a dozen there. It is unfortunate that you guys have to spend big bucks to get a proper tow pig and maintain a truck license. In the U.S. if you aren't over 11.8kg you are golden. I see why guys here are selling our old rigs and shipping them there. The type of stuff ya'll drive we put on trailers and tow to the trailheads.

@@4WD247 Not true. There's countless third or fourth hand MNs copping replacement engines. The thing is manufacturers are still bound by consumer law's reasonable expectations of durability, whether it's owned by the original purchaser or not.
