All my life, I wanted to live in a warm climate, and have a pool. Retired 2 years ago and moved from MN to live in Clearwater, FL. Just got my pool and landscaping finished this year. There hasn't been a direct hit here since 1935, and before that, 1921. I am hoping for the best, and prepping for the worst.

I am so annoyed my 88 year old Ohio Snowbird in-laws rebuilt after Ian 1/2 mile inland from Fort Myers Beach against our advice. They will be FINALLY moving back in 2 weeks. I bet their park will flood again and their new unit, new car, new furniture and belongings already in place will be destroyed AGAIN. And THIS time they don't have flood insurance to rely on. Such a waste of money! 😢😡

My family used to live there years ago... grandfather, my nanna and great auntie. Yes make your way early and go far... away from land inbetween hills where rivers run. Check historis flood maps. Also Google bicycle tracks along the roads because the show the elevation, for how step the hills are for the riders. Pretty clever huh - all the best as you venture out. Dont make it too obvious you've loaded up your car. Act like you're going to visit family etc If things get smashed back in Florida dont be too obvious in your distress. Plan ahead now, you have a bit of time.

Nope, running out of water and on fire. The Midwest? Better, but worsening hail storms, humidity, floods and tornados. The NE? Crowded and expensive. Texas? Horribly overcrowded, expensive and full of desperate migrants. Hurricanes, heat, drought growing worse. The SE? Hotter and hotter and flooded by hurricanes.

We live on Pine Island (south of Sarasota and north of Ft Myers). Charging our batteries for our reciprocating saws. They will be the most useful tool to cut out the soaken drywall and insulation. Cut about 1 ft above the water line. Then, let it all dry out with fans. Buy more insulation, install it, and then replace the drywall and mudding, paint, etc... What a nightmare, but that's the plan of attack. Screw home owners insurance. The deductible for coastline homes is like $20-25K/year. Better off not having insurance, since its a racket.
