14:28 nepenthes ampullaria does vine as well but it rarely ever produces upper pitchers
@Grow_Up_Man553 жыл бұрын
Yeah I believe so - although it sounds like the rare upper pitchers are in the process of being evolved away! Just fascinating plants.

I believe that particular species is a very forgiving one with a wide range of temperature tolerance so it should be ok.

I love mine but they get huge and I have to “ let them go”…now I get a small growing plant.
@Grow_Up_Man553 жыл бұрын
Can't you just prune them? That's what I do with mine - they take to it well.

Hello! I was wondering if you could help me with a problem with a Swiss cheese plant i have. If not no worries! 😊😊😊 There are crispy brown spots appearing on the older, smaller leaves. And 3 of its new shoots/uncurled leaves went brown before they even opened up. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Sorry for the long comment, would be greatfull of any advise! Thank you! 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️

I haven't ever actually grown a Swiss Cheese plant so I can't speak from experience with that particular plant. Unfortunately spots and brown leaves is usually the result of getting any one of several factors wrong so you'll have to experiment with it. Have you recently started turning heaters and radiators on if you live somewhere temperate? That would cause it. Is it getting enough light? Has it grown well previously? Have you checked close for for bugs? Without knowing the exact location and its 'story' that's all I can offer at present. Good luck!
@ShroomClay3 жыл бұрын
@@Grow_Up_Man55 thank you! We haven't turned on any radiators, but as winter is coming it is getting colder. There are no bugs that I know of, and I usually move it to a window when the light is not direct. It was previously in a garden centre only a couple of months ago - do you think it could be a environment change shock? Thank you! 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
@Grow_Up_Man553 жыл бұрын
@@ShroomClay Yeah possibly. Are you sure it's getting enough light? Our eyes don't give us the true picture of how much light is coming in. Even in my greenhouse it was only after testing it with a light meter did I realise how poor the light is compared to what they really need.

@@Grow_Up_Man55 thank you! Oh right - I didn't realize our eyes were like that, I will try giving it more light! Thank you for all your help! 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️

Hi Geoff you mentioned (1740) that Nepenthes will grow in nearly any media? I think you should have mentioned NOT to use normal house plant composts for Carnivorous Plants as full of nutrients of various kinds which could harm the delicate roots etc. They don't require that type of compost as they ' catch ' there own food , that's why they have turned in Carnivorous Plants in the first place over millions of years, Nutrients provided by the insects and photosynthesis via the leaves. Otherwise great video. Peter
@Grow_Up_Man553 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree if we're growing them 'optimally' I wouldn't use anything with nutrients in it - however, the modern hybrids will actually grow in pretty much anything providing it's fairly loose and airy. I do have other videos where I've gone into that in greater depth, however it's just my opinion on it.
