My 1st eye was done just 6 hours ago. The procedure itself went smoothly and I felt zero discomfort. I can almost see threw the eye guard and from what I can see is simply amazing! The whole world brightened right up! Whites really are white and the world appears just a bit larger. Things are still blurry; but, I can already see some distance. I am a very happy camper 6 hours in.

Thank you for sharing your experience with cataract surgery. I have an appointment with the surgeon on August 10th 2021 because I have a cataracts in my left eye and I also have one in my right eye, and if untreated I won't be able to see, let alone drive. I've been watching videos on cataracts and lasik surgery and lens replacement surgery also, just to try and get an idea of what I have to go through and what my options are. Thank you again for sharing your experience. God bless

Hello. I am soon going to have to have a lens replacement in my left eye due to a cataract. I am also blind in my right eye which is scarring me to death to have the procedure. I have been researching different lens choices, however, I know that my insurance will probably only cover a standard monofocal lens. In this video you state that your near vision is better after the surgery. Did you get a monofocal lens replacement or another lens?

I had both eyes done on September 19th or two weeks ago today. It was simple and easy, the doctor explained everything before he did it. I was in and out of surgery in 25 minutes, I had pain killer eye drops, no medication what so ever and all went well. No pain, no discomfort at all. Drops down to one three times a day. Your making a big deal out of a simple procedure.

I had Cateract surgery on my left eye one week ago. I can honestly say that the experience was painless, straightforward and the surgeon and nursing team were amazing making sure I was relaxed and the surgeon talked to me all the way through the op checking I was ok and giving me instructions. My right eye is due to be operated on in a few weeks time and I am looking forward to it and having better vision. I would just say to nervous patients that you will be ok, the experience is painless, the nursing team will be with you and discomfort afterwards is very minimal and after a bit of flashing, itchinh & gritty feeling and the vision adjusting to the new lens for the first few days everything is great now.

I had cataract surgery on July 17th and I just cannot believe how colourful the world is! I had a local anaesthetic and a sedative so I don't really remember anything after we went into theatre. Bandages removed 24 hours later and now I just have to remember to have 3 different eye drops 4 times daily for the next month. Very easy surgery =)

It is the end of Sept 2023 as I write this. I had one eye done three weeks ago and the second one week ago. Cataract surgery is painless, quite fast and gives immediate results. Then as the days go by sight gets even better. There is nothing to be apprehensive about. If you are concerned just relax. You will be quite pleased with the results as this surgery is perhaps one of the most well understood and refined of them all.

I had my first cataract surgery on my left eye on 5th December 2020 at Moorfields, London. My left eye was tested as better than 20:20 2 weeks later , although, I Will need specs for reading. I'll have my second op when Moorfields gets back to some normality after lockdown has eased. The operation is relatively quick and painless. Just be brave and do the necessary thing. The benefits are life changing

great to hear from a Patients point of view I am a Surgical Technologist and work in the eye Operating rooms. We do about 18 cataracts a day and operate all week with some other eye surgeries for glaucoma, corneal transplants, Ahmed valves & vitrectomies. I want to tell all who are going to be having cataract surgery. us techs take a great deal of pride and love into our job. keeping you safe and comfortable is our main concern. If you are ever scared or nervous during your procedure a Surgical Technologist may hold your hand through the procedure. I personally tell my patients " we are placing a sterile drape over you now, but we are all still here with you.. if anything bothers you say ouch so we can stop and take necessary actions. but usually never do you have pain. I set up all the sterile instruments and supplies and then drape and assist the doctor throughout the procedure. I hope you all have great experiences with your cataract surgery. 💜 God bless you all. and may your vision be restored.

Riah Love I'm on my first week and I'm behaving really good following all the doctor's instructions, I know I can't wear makeup for at least another week, maybe two more to be sure? (for the rubbing of taking off the makeup), but, do I have to throw away all my eye makeup, liquids and face powders, even if they're slightly new? I'd be grateful for any information, I have some eyeshadows and liners that I barely used once, but my eyes are more important than makeup

I would like to thank Tropicalscot for the two videos. You were accurate and informative and I watched your video to gain confidence. I had the same experience. The eye drops numbed the eye and then the injection prevented movement, in fact it parallised the vision and all went dark. To all of you following this path, I did note feel anything other than the surgeons resting his hand on my cheek. I saw nothing at all, not even the light. The next morning I took off the bandage and could see in HD. Fantastic, the most amazing thing in my 60 years. Please dont worry, it is another gift from whatever God you follow. Once again Scot, you did a great job, and it many thanks to you.

I had mine done this morning at 9am. I was given IV sedation, that means, I slept throughout the operation. Now that 8 hours have passed, no pain, just abit scratchy/foreign body sensation in the operated eye. I did remove my eye shield briefly a few times today to monitor the progress: 3 hours postop, blurry and foggy; 7 hours postop: clearer vision but not 100%. One thing for sure: colours of the sky and field look so much fresher, brighter, and even slightly bigger than the unoperated eye. Amazing!

I had my left eye done April 7 and my right April 28th, 2015. I had no choice to get the procedures done because I was legally blind and was no longer able to drive. I see better now than I have in my entire life. I was given a sedative that is a hypnotic, Versed. I knew nothing of what was going on, felt no pain, saw nothing, remember nothing. Its a very simple, quick, and easy surgery. I too wore a plastic shield after the surgeries for 24 hrs and then when I slept, only for a week. At my one week follow up for my left eye I was cleared to go back to all normal activity, including roller coasters! I no longer need glasses for distance, only for reading. I do have my eye's weak so galsses on but I dont have cataracts but though it really is encouraging for someone who really dont know about the catracts surgery, it really seems a bit dangerous when watching those surgery videos and feels really creepy and scary, I got the goosebumps too while some sort of equipments were pierced or inserted right in the eyes it was really too scary so I was wondering and imagining about that how does a patient feels after the surgery as his/her eyes were made gone throughout that piercing and inserting those all equipments, will he/she still feel great pain untill revovery ? Or will he/she be kept unconcsious after surgery so that he feels no pain?? But hahaa now i know that what and how a patient feels it really feels kinda good and relaxing. Thanks for the posts

Well done, Scot! I had my first (right) eye done last Friday. Three days later, my vision is still foggy, but I can tell the colo(u)rs are brighter. My sister had hers done and saw better instantly. So I guess it depends on the cataract density (mine was high) and thus the power used to break it up. Hopefully, by my appointment next Friday, I'll be seeing well again.

My right eye was corrected three months ago by NHS. Absolutely everything was fine during the procedure and afterwards. A bit of a sore head later that night which felt like ' brain freeze ' when you drink or eat something cold. Some Paracetamol took care of that and since then I have been checked up by my Optician and I have been cleared to drive with one contact lens in my distance ( left eye ). I used to wear a monofocal system with continous wear contact lenses and I am hoping to have the left corrected soon with a distance lens and that will give me near and far monofocal vision. For anyone who is going to have Cataract Surgery I will say that there is nothing to worry about. It is a painless procedure and the after effects are minimal. I am enjoying the clarity and colour enhancement in my right eye and can't wait for Op 2.

I found it a very surreal experience especially when the eye surgeon asked me if I wanted to be long sighted or short sighted!! I have been short sighted all my life and have opted for long sight so that I will only need glasses for reading.I just had the anaesthetic eye drops and no sedation at all .I felt nothing and found the lights ,colours and water swooshing around my eye fascinating! It took around 10 /15 minutes to complete.Day 2 I have no pain and find my clear bright vision mind blowing.I can't stop looking at the pictures on my lounge wall,I have never seen them look as colourful! My mum had cataract surgery today. She lost vision in one eye because of glaucoma so we were very worried to operate on the remaining eye. But everything went well and she sees clearer and clearer from hour to hour. This makes me so happy. Slowly going blind is the most depressing thing ever and now we managed to reverse it. She can't stop telling me how good I look now lol. It is the best feeling in the world and makes me want to cry.

I had cataract surgery this morning. No shot in the eye. Doctors and nurses administered numbing eye drops and IV twilight sedation. Woke up a couple times to moderate pain for a few seconds during procedure and went right back out. Vision instantly restored. Setting an appointment for the other eye. Eye felt scratchy for about 6 hours afterward, but only when awake. Slept through most of that six hours. Was in and out of surgical center in 1 & 1/2 hours. I’m in the USA.

I got the right eye done 5 days ago and it went so smooth, i didn't get the injection just a few drops but i didn't feel anything at all, and after I haven't experienced any redness or pain or anything (not complaining lol) I'm so glad because before the surgery I was sooooo scared, but I've been following the instructions, next day on the post op follow up I was told ok to drive, but no bending, no lifting, no water, patch for naps and at night, my eyesight won't be 20/20 never because my eyes are super long, but compared to before it's way better, good luck everyone

Thank you and I have it scheduled for my left eye in 6 wks. Had a detached retina and full vitrectomy in my right eye while on vacation in Greece 13 years ago which eventually led to total blindness in that eye after a follow-on surgery to replace the temporary use of oil in the eye after the vitrectomy. A rather severe cataract has developed in the left eye over the last few years, eventually impacting reading and driving. Was advised to wait as long as possible for the surgery since I only have one functional eye - while cataract surgery is low risk, it isn't zero risk and my worst fear is a complication leading to total blindness. Trying to stay positive with prayer and good health otherwise - will be glad to return to reading and driving soon.

Today's mark a week after my surgery. Just like @tropicalscot .... I had anesthetic injection which my doctor given me. I felt the needle injected on my eye, after that I felt numb and doze off. Then, in the middle of the surgery, I seem to 'woke up!' BUT THANKFULLY! I'm still numb but awake🥴. Short panic actually..hehe...then I heard my doctor calm me down after noticing my eyelid twitching fast. He said, "relax relax, you're doing great!". I remembered that I was trying so hard to calm my thoughts and go back to sleep. Anyways, shortly after that, I goes into deep sleep coz the nurse said I snored! hahaha. Btw, my surgery took about 20mins. Everything goes well, no bleeding or redness or soarness or swelling. No after pain, which I heard other patient has. Feeling so greatful. Felt some gritty in your eyes, as expected. But that's manageable. I rest for a day. Next day, doing light chores as per doc advice. No bending too low or carry heavy object. Worried could move your lens they say. The main thing that I would like to share is, whenever you take your short nap or sleep, use the given 'eye cap' to protect from scratching your eye. I almost did!😋 seriously guys! and please apply your eyedrop CONSISTENTLY, if you want to heal fast. FYI, I'm going for my next left eye surgery. Hopefully goes well too🤭. That's all. Hope my sharing will bring benefit to you who's going to have a surgery anytime soon. May you have a pleasant surgery too! Take care everyone! ❤

hi Charity. Quite similar to me then (I had retinal detachment in one eye, then the other a few months later). Sometimes cataracts don't form after vitrectomies but I think they do in the majority of cases (you may have to wait around a year for the cararacts to form). But cataract surgery is pretty easy going compared to vitrectomies.

Now i need cataract surgery, but i don’t know which type of lens will be the best choice. My other eye is still good (i’m 29 years old and i have -6.00, but no detachments or anything in the other eye). After cataract surgery my bad eye won’t be able to accomodate anymore. Are you still able to read with your good eye? And how is your vision with one eye needing reading glasses and not for the other eye? Why did you not choose a multifocal lens? Was that not an option or do you think the vision will be dissturbed? Thanks in advance for you response!

Thanks very much for that information. I was sent, last month, to the eye surgeon by my optometrist just to arrange to have my cataracts finally removed. The eye surgeon surprised me when he told me I had glaucoma! The optometrist somehow missed seeing that! I had assumed optometrists we’re trained to recognize all eye diseases. I had the two laser treatments two days apart. The eye surgeon wants me to return next month (Dec. /19) Then, sometime in the next six months, I’ll be scheduled to go to a hospital not far from our city to have my cataracts removed. This surgeon doesn’t have privileges in the hospital in our city. All this is harder on my body than the average person because I’ve been suffering since January with a rare neurological disease for which there’s no treatment & no cure. I spent nearly a month in two hospitals in January & February. I had to learn to walk all over again, but am grateful this disease has not yet affected my muscles. So I can still walk, although walking is slow & awkward & I have to concentrate so as not to fall......because my balance is still not great. I’m facing partial paralysis sometime in my near future. Also, I’ve been mysteriously short of breath for three months now. My doctor is looking into the cause. No diagnosis yet. Also, I just spent eight hours in the hospital when I determined myself that I have a blood clot high up in one leg......which is extremely dangerous because the higher it is in the leg, the higher the risk of a piece of it breaking off, traveling to the heart & causing a fatal heart attack. I diagnosed myself & had my husband call for an ambulance because I recognized the pain......having experienced it last year in the other leg. In ‘16 I had had a clot in one lung. I’m a 73 year old Canadian who is now finding out what it’s like to get old. lol 😁 🇨🇦

You look fairly young to have had the surgery. But in my case I am 66 and most of those that were having the surgery on the two days I had mine were older. But I read that cataracts can affect people as young as thirty. The only issues I had on both occasions was terrible headache for 6 to 9 hours after the numbing drugs wore off. Had mine done with a Laser and now post op over two weeks and just 6 days since the second I am feeling and seeing so much better. Follow up visits are going well and have to take eye drops several times a day and this will take about a month or more depending on how well the healing goes. So good luck to all planning on this surgery and believe me it has changed the way I see the world for the better.
