The day I got the ok to include some of Eric's lyrics in my heavy rock infused fantasy novel, Sword of Aeteurnia, I also got to have a long talk on messenger with him about many things. Eric has his beliefs, which are his business, but at his core I can tell you he is very much a peace and love guy. Someone very real in an artificial superficial world. What I got from Eric, is that he is very much like his lyrics. I call him a modern day poet. His view is that deep down people know what is right, but sometimes, for whatever reasons, don't make the right choices. Eric is also a very humble guy. Had an awesome short conversation with him, at the last Skull show with Saint Vitus in Dallas. We talked a bit about the old "white metal" thing with Metal Blade Records. Really liked his attitude about it. He basically said he was trying to provide a heavy alternative to all the negative lyrics and imagery. He was not trying to judge or anything, just being real, and writing about deeper things, his thoughts about things happening, and what will happen in this world. Once again, not judging, but if you wanted hate, satan, etc, there were those who would give it to you in music, entertainment, but he was not going to be one of them. Really cool attitude to me, an honor to collaborate with him, and feature selected lyrics of Trouble in my book, along with a few of Victor Griffin of Pentagram/Place of Skulls, Dave Chandler of Saint Vitus, and several other heavy bands. My biggest writing influences are Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Regarding beliefs, I would say to all the real Christians out there, like you should for everyone, pray for people, for guidance and wisdom, and for those without hope in this wicked world, and don't judge. Every Christian needs to remember, that they once were not ....SG Smith. The book is available from Amazon and Kindle.

I was scanning the FM band and picked up Z Rock. I didn't know much about it at first but I did find out through the DJ comments that it was simulcast through Hart, Muskegon and Grand Rapids area. I was obviously picking up the signal from across Lake Michigan. since I would be very close to due West from that area of Michigan. It blew my mind the stuff they were playing. Eric Wagner drew from the British invasion for his vocal attack as he does have a Robert Plant style attack; the Christians wrote the lyrics in Trouble as Bruce Franklin is the lone Christian in the band. They caught a lot of shit from Christian circles with Bastards Will Pay as Eric wasn't afraid of strong language. I saw them twice once in 1997 and again in 2011. Trouble is a unique heavy metal band that are a strong outfit since their formation as they were game changers in the 1980s -- like Stryper and Bloodgood they drew from The Bible with their early albums as they were accused of being a Christian band. Robert Sweet with recent bands plays doom metal as I was wondering what got him listening to Doom as it was a stark contrast from his glam metal roots as doom metal got mainstream with Alice In Chains and Soundgarden as they introduced it to alternative metal. Christian themes in heavy metal was an open thing in Chicago as Slauter Estroyes' current lead singer is a devote Christian as some heavy metal bands never got their proper due like Sacred Warrior (as Rey went to church with members of Trouble in the 1980s.) The difference between Stryper and Trouble is Trouble was quite punishing and dark with their delivery as they influenced Down and Corrosion of Conformity with their sludge metal delivery. Chicago in the mid-1980s into the 1990s had two metal movements Trouble and Ministry. When Ministry emerged with their Industrial Metal sound everyone shit their fucking pants including Wax Trax.
