I would NOT use a steel bristle brush to clean electrical contacts. That will likely destroy the special plating of the components. At most, use a brass bristle. It's a great idea to use dielectric grease (available at auto parts stores) on contacts to create a seal to deter corrosion.

Hey Ken, great topic, on the water troubleshooting! This would be a good video series... Trolling motor, graphs, pumps, outboard... I recently had some electrical issues with my console graph. Ended up being a bad fuse holder. I'd love to hear the guys at Jones Trolling Motor recommendations for spare parts and tools to carry for on-the-water repairs. I carry an assortment of tools in my boat, but I know if something goes wrong I probably will say, I wish I had _______ tool or a spare ______. It would be good to hear their opinion. Go Hogs!

Just changed my front graph mount. I had my front dash off and the trolling motor plug receptacle removed from the dash while I was working. Got everything back together and was testing all of my front electrical. I turned the trolling motor switch on, and the blue pilot (on/off) light was on, but the motor blade would not run, nor the steering turn. I have 36 volts to the plug, so I am baffled. I was out in the boat last week, and I have had no issues. Any ideas?

What if you put it on anchor and it turns left and stops anchor, but works as long as it doesn't go all the way right to where it goes kinda backwards. It just stops anchor mode only when goes all the way right. Going left is fine.

Off topic of this video, but have you flushed your Pro XS using a water hose? I did mine this weekend and have water coming out above the lower unit. Trying to figure out if that is normal or not. Thanks Ken!

You know as silly as it sounds the first thing to check is to see if the pull handle or the cable is rolling under the front of the foot pedal, if anything is in the way of the foot pedal it'll turn it off. If that's not it I'd seek a pro to help!

A "dealer" is most often retail product sales, and nothing more. The majority of those will be nearly clueless on parts. You need to contact an authorized service center. That's where you will find someone familiar with repair parts. Most service centers are also dealers, but most dealers are NOT a parts source.

I would stop that shop short on some of what they say; I'm sorry but there's just no other way to put it - they spew a mouth full of utter BS at times. While I have nothing against Minn Kota, I'm certain the Precision charger is not the only trustworthy charger in the market today. I do agree on avoiding long term powered charger connection, specifically due to risk of failure and fire loss.
