On my 2001 PT cruiser special edition on the fog lights I have to pull the end of the light knob out my car has 107,000 miles on it to and I just bought it a couple months ago

I think the fog lights on the one i just bought have been disconnected! The #8 fuse is still in, the fog lights don't come on at all, BUT, the fog lamp icon on the dash stays lit up, unless I put the left blinker on, when I park it. ? Weird. But I can live with that, until I can get the multi function switch done.

Work-around on a 2002 PT is to pull out fuse number 8 in the interior cabin fuse block (near the front hood release). That fuse stops the fog lights from coming on at all. For a more permanent solution you must replace the multi-function switch in the steering column. That's the source of the trouble. Even heard reports of the switch/steering column smoking. Just a bunch of screws and a few wiring harness plugs.

I would agree with you about the fact that it seems exaggerated for the steering column to start smoking... if it hadn't been for the fact that the same thing had happened to me recently. It was pretty quick too, but there's no way to replicate the event as it happened because it quite literally is unexpected.

Thank you this worked for my 2004 pt, for a temporary fix. Mine does not have fog lights let alone a front bumper, it is a work in progress but the light would come on and turn off while driving which bugged me. After 2 days haven't seen the light at all

It would have been nice if you'd showed what fuse to pull - interior/exterior & which number. I'm having a real hard time finding which one. Manual indicates #21 in the under hood box -- yet there is no fuse in that slot! By the way, this is apparently a widespread issue with the PT's and is caused by faulty plastic switch design that wears down.

its a commonn problem with pt cruisers the problem lies with the multifunction switch (the switch that controls the lights and the turn signals and what not, you have to get that replaced, probably a 50 dollar part, for a temporary you can pull the fuse until you can fix it

push the signal light in and pull down to turn off. Mine stayed on until I sat there and did it. So push in signal light and pull gently down like you are signaling. It works!!

My grandfather's 2004 PT Limited does the same thing, except when he leaves the turn signal switch in the left turn signal mode when he turns off the car, then they stay off. I know you probably sold it, but just saying to try that the next time you may have a similar issue. :)

Most of the time you will find out its the hole light stick unit that gets very hot and burns out. I have to get a new one for mine also....Some electric techy bloke said there is way to many amps or voltage going though the electric unit on that part that turns the fogs on and spots. Have Chrysler come up for a fix or upgraded part i do not no. But i bloody hope so

Hey saabkyle04 did you ever have the fog light problem fixed ? I have a 2001 PT we purchased at the beginning of Jan 2013 and it has the same problem. Once in a while the fog lights will turn on on its own. It happened a couple of weeks ago and again last night . I noticed that if I turn the signal switch to the 'left' position when the PT is turned off, the fog lights stay off.

I agree with Mr Lisk - this was a complete waste of time - it's not 'troubleshooting' the fog lamp issue, it's a nearly 8 minute disappointment with many moments of gut-wrenching spinning video and nauseating sway. You might want to call this video - how to jump start a PT cruiser. At least that title will be somewhat accurate.

Mine were staying on, I replaced the multi switch for the signals and it is working great. By the way you have to pull outward to turn on the fog lights.

The fog light problem is almost always the multifunction switch. They overheat and you end up with an intermittent fog lights that won't stay off. There is a DIY fix on one of the PT boards, but most people just pull the fuse. The car will start with the fuse pulled, I've had mine out for about 2,000 miles. The car does not have a rev limiter or redline at 3800 rpm. You just can't rev them that high in park. If he put it in drive he'd be able to get up to the real redline.

i have an 03 with this fog light problem, you can pull the fuse but the car wont start without it so i just reached under the car and disconnected the fog light plugs, light on dash still on but no battery drainage, until you decide to fix the problem in the switch.

my dad had this same problem in his.. but we found out if you push down the blinker while the car is off the fog lights will turn off....some weird random thing but not sure if it will only work with ours but we got it fixed

Misleading indeed. How is this a video on trouble shooting the fog lights. You didn't trouble shoot anything other the cause of the battery being dead. Replace the mutil-function switch and you'll solve the fog light issues and solve the dead battery issue at the same time.

Ive also never seen someone be so rough on a vehicle. ex: slamming the shifter from Park into Drive, Drive into Reverse...so on and so forth. Not sure if I would want to buy a vehicle from this guy.

I had that same problem I just replaced the fog Steering wheel lights Control switch cost $89 for it easy to do but the box connectors are fragile and brake easy.

It actually points to the negative jump point. The chassis is negative, so. I'm not sure why you haven't seen that.

If you put the car into neutral and rev it, it shouldn't hit the 3500 rpm redline because it should only do it in park. haha "There's those stupid lights again!!" haha You don't have much luck with chrysler products do you? :) We are luck we didn't get this car. Nice vid, two thumbs up :)

instead of paying over 70 fpr the whole swith box, just go buy a power switch, some cable and pins, take off the fuse. strip some wire. add a pin to each end of the wire. connect the swith to the wire. insert 1pin to one side of wjere the fuse is inserted and the other end of the wire to the other side of the fuse box. that the swithc should turn on/off ur fogs. easy fiix

You'll need a new battery if you 100% discharged it several times. Also it is better to ground to the body vs the battery anyway. True Chrysler quality is pretty poor.

My fog lights don't work at all. Also does anyone else have the notorious dash crack? It's like the dash starts to get brittle and will break at the windshield vent in the middle then work its way down to the middle air vents above the AC/Heat knobs. Out of all the notorious issues that is the most I've heard of. That, this fog light issue, and rim rot, which is basically where the rim starts to rust underneath the chrome and the chrome starts to chip off in large chunks over time.
