Alright, I've read comments Below and didn't find any relative to my issues with my 12 valve, so here we go! 97 12 valve, 4x4. Brakes were spongy. Truck free-wheeled down a 6% grade with about 12,000# pushing. So bad that trailer brakes and tires along with trucks brakes all smoked. Meanwhile, ABS light and brake light came on on the dash. Power steering pump-works great, steers fine. No leaks or noises. Replaced the booster based upon other KZbin videos I watched, before doing the booster, I did new shoes in the rear and pads up front. Still spongy. Once the new booster was in, drove the truck and noticed power steering was low before even paying attention to the fact that the pump and booster worth together. Anywho, new booster in. Now I drive about 2 miles and front brakes apply slowly to the point of locking up and won't release until truck is off and parked a minute or 2. Maybe a vac line somewhere I'm missing that's causing this? Big trip coming up the after Christmas with my wife and kids and don't want any dangers or hazards so any tips/tricks would be great! Thanks guys!

Thanks for the advice. Steering and brakes both locked up. Flushed the system like you said. Works great now.

Does it really. I’m about to attempt this

It worked for me. Took about an hour. Just the labor at the mechanic shop was going to be around $300 plus parts. Glad I tried it myself first. I’ve had no issues since I worked on it and have put about 6K miles on it

Why did they ever design a truck with the power steering system intermingled with the brake system??

How did it go

I got a new redhead steering box and my power steering is still hard to turn. Without throttle it wines coming from the hydroboost i think. I really don't know. I have to tap the throttle pedal for it to turn. What could be the issue. Im going to try this. Its annoying fighting that steering constantly.

I have a 99 Cummins and haven’t had those issues, I know it’s unusual but at 185,000 4x4 5 speed manual there are absolutely no oil leaks anywhere

I changed my power steering pump and hydroboost seals. I refill power steering and bleed the system. Now I have no brakes. Wh ed n engine is off brakes are very hard, when engine is on my brakes go the floor.
@ryanpoloski43224 жыл бұрын
When the engine is off it's not turning the pump so your brakes are going to be extremely hard.

Still hadn’t figured mine out. PS pump is pumping but, hard steering, brakes sucked to the floor and it gets super hot, like melted the PS dipstick hot.

Can a faulty hydro boost cause all 4 brakes to heat up?
@davidtweeddale2027 Жыл бұрын
That would be your brake master cylinder. It sits on top of the hydro boost.
@richardharrison48044 жыл бұрын
Mine simply leaks power steering fluid only! Brakes work, power steering works. What can be done, other than replace the whole thing?
@davidtweeddale2027 Жыл бұрын
Probably a $1.00 O Ring at the high pressure line, a loose connection, lightly leaking pump or line, or a micro cracked high pressure line as was my case.

I have no power steering fluid coming out I replaced the pump and the line and still no power steering fluid coming out the coupleling seemed to line up the vacuum line is on How long should it take to bleed? Or I could have gotten a nfg pump what sho

what if all 4 sides heat up to the point where the trucks is slowing down to halt, rotors are hot, brand new hydro boost, new power steering box, new rotors, new brake pads, new rotors, new tie rods and ball joints, new brake lines installed, new master cylinder, bled master cylinder and lines. cant understand why unless it’s the new hydro boost but does it anyone else have this issue and how to fix?

ok after I did those two things and my steering still sucks what next? I've got a new gear box and pump. Do I need a new Hydroboost or is my oriellys pump a POS?
@coffeedollsvp3 жыл бұрын
Did u figure it out?...i have steering issues also
@snarf1143 жыл бұрын
@@coffeedollsvp Yes. It's really hard to find a good reman steering pump. The remans use internal parts for lighter weight trucks so they don't make enough pressure. I bought a brand new pump from Napa that works like the truck is new. It's expensive but it's worth it, especially considering it's a fairly hard job changing a cummins steering pump.

Has anyone had their brakes come on when they turn their steering wheel
@whatsin53352 жыл бұрын
Yes, replace the rubber brake line hose right before metal line to caliper. There is a 10mm holding a clamp that holds the rubber hose. That clamp will build up with rust and cause a check valve simulation. Try by spreading the clamp wider or just removing the clamp.
