Like to know how to build a config and were the standard come from, and how configs work in different cisco switch I notice not all config play nice in different switch, I see erros sometimes I can fix them. I just let the author of the config know let them fix it. Great talking to you, that up link info was very cool. 😊
@EastCharmer
@EastCharmer 4 ай бұрын
@user-ph3xk8og5f that's nice!! Yeah that's a good point. You have to tweak the config a bit to different models. We also had the issue of the latest OS not working well with the PoE for our Access Points so we had to dowongrade the OS. You probably have a lot of experience with configs now. Oh which uplink info was it?

One of the best practices also when replacing an old switch to the new one is to back up the configuration you have from the old switch and then load it up to the new switch assuming you have the same set up / placing of the ethernet cables to the new switch to avoid that the kind of errors in the configuration.
@EastCharmer
@EastCharmer 4 ай бұрын
Yes I agree 100% to always have backup of the old switch. That's what we've been doing actually. We copied all the exact configurations on the switch and moved the cables exactly where it should be placed. but the error this time was in the router config. It was a different team that configures Layer 3 and we trusted that the configs were done correctly

Decommissioning without pizza and beer is a sin. In 2021 we throw all hand office party when decommissioning an old FTP server. “What so special about this particular server?” CEO asked. It was running from 2002.

Appreciate it! wow congrats on your new role!! hhmmm for reading, I guess it's really nice to watch real world videos like this so you'll have more ideas on what you might do at work. I think it also depends on your company. If you know what kind of devices they're using like CISCO, JUNIPER, ARISTA etc, you might wanna read about those devices, the specs , functionality just to prepare

I’ve encountered fiber issues before like this. Fiber sometimes can be such a pain. We had to go from an old building across campus which means the fiber connection was under cement to our building. At one point years ago some workers had to dig up the cement for maintenance and broke the original fiber. So they had new fiber ran. When we were trying to replace the old switches with Cisco 9300 the fiber link just wouldn’t come up. I went through so many checks and it came down to making sure the same SFPs set to same speed and again swapping the fiber sides to get it working. It was definitely a learning experience. Can you tell me the brand of SFP you’re using? Those blue tabs seem to provide protection and better when you need to remove them. Enjoying the videos.
@EastCharmer
@EastCharmer 4 ай бұрын
Yeah fiber is a pain and they're delicate so you really have to be careful. Oh wow that's a lot of work re-running fiber. I don't have that much experience with cabling so I learned too. We're using CISCO SFP 10/25G-LR-S. Yeah they're easier to remove that's why they're also pricey lol
