Troubleshooting the Huawei P20 Pro: Identifying and Solving Issues

Today, we're going to conduct a quick diagnostic of a Huawei P20 Pro, previously deemed unrepairable by another store. We aim to determine the problem and potentially make a good profit in a matter of minutes, compared to an average 8-hour workday.
The device is first disassembled, revealing a loose battery connector. We then proceed to remove all connectors and two coaxial cables to extricate the motherboard from the chassis. An important reminder is not to forget to remove the SIM tray during this process.

To perform a detailed examination of the motherboard, we connect it to the Power Z, an indispensable tool in mobile repair workshops. The Power Z KM001 is a sophisticated, portable USB power tester, designed for professionals and electronics enthusiasts. It's equipped with a high-resolution 1-inch OLED display, compatible with multiple charging protocols, offering versatility in connectivity with 2 USB-A input/output ports and 2 USB Type-C ports. It also has a micro USB port for PC connectivity. The Power Z measures accurate voltage and current ranges from 0.1 to 24V and 0-5A, respectively. By observing the current consumption after pressing the power button three times, we notice it is relatively high, and the device attempts to enter power-saving mode but shows some consumption. This indicates that we need to inspect the motherboard more closely.
Under the microscope, we spot a small piece of plastic that may prevent the FPC connector from making a good connection. We also notice two solder balls, suggesting potential overheating on the motherboard or previous handling by another technical service. Over time, this information is instrumental in improving our diagnostic capabilities.
To check the device's charging, we connect the Type-C cable, initially observing an 80 milliampere charge. After some time, the charge stabilizes at 1.8 amperes, which is an adequate charge for this device. Without having a spare screen, we can deduce that the device works and simply requires a new screen to perform all necessary checks.
After connecting a new screen, we confirm that the device powers on. We then contact the customer to inform them about the need to replace the faulty screen. This has been a successful diagnostic of a Huawei P20 Pro, demonstrating the value of a systematic approach and the right tools.
