Micah . . . I watched every single second of that one hour and one minute (plus 11-seconds). I found myself wanting more. You sir, are an ambassador for the every-day guy/gal who yearns for serenity and adventure. You don't blow us away with technical terms or years of must have experience. You let us know and believe we do not have to be wealthy or super experienced to get out doors and just breath; wether its at a National Park or just exploring the park at the end of our block, thank you 🥺. I love Yosemite . . . not surprised it's the second National Park established. The John Muir Trail is something every human on earth should traverse. That area is life-changing. Thank you my friend . . . ☺‼

All these high alpine lakes in Yosemite were fishless until they planted them with trout during the early 1900’s. The native Rainbow’s only lived in the lower elevations of Yosemite in places like the Merced river.

@@UntilJourneysEnd i know the rainbows were planted years ago they are still a Native Fish . rainbows need a River to successfully spawn brook trout can spawn in the Gravel in a lake and overrun Lakes in the Sierras all i am saying Eat the Brook trout and save the rainbows most lakes in the backcountry do not have rainbows in them but most all have a lot brook trout
@UntilJourneysEnd
@UntilJourneysEnd 3 ай бұрын
@markvanderstelt8999 I see what you mean Mark. Brook trout can definitely have the potential to overrun a lake system. That’s a good point. Many of the lakes I fish, including this one, are so remote that the fishing pressure they receive is very minimal. Taking a few Rainbows out of the system won’t drastically affect their numbers by any means. And just a note on Native vs. Wild. None of these fish in the Yosemite backcountry lakes are Native trout, including Rainbows. Native means they were there before any human intervention. Wild means, they were stocked at one time, and have now become a self sustaining population. I think that difference is important, because having fished places where the Rainbows were indeed Native, gives you a whole different outlook on how many you would keep for dinner if their population numbers were in fact in peril.

You might also try corn meal to coat the trout before frying. It does a great job cooking the trout.

Great video! That fishing was fantastic. Were you hiking up in a flannel?! Jeez man, get yourself a hooded sunshirt. They're not expensive (though can be but don't need to be), breathable and usually provide sun protection. Also bring a headnet, though the skeeters seemed epic on this trip. Also give a Thermacell a try. Beautiful fish ypu caught here! Peace!

I enjoy your backpacking & fishing trips. I appreciate all the work that goes into video taping. IMHO i don't know why you don't share the location. So many who videotape fishing the backcountry do. Only real sportsmen & hikers watch these so i wouldn't worry about the area being damaged. Just an opinion.

Thanks Joe! I’m glad you enjoy the channel! I make these videos not just for fellow outdoorsman, but also for the people who have never grown up with someone to show them the outdoors. My goal is to inspire the younger generation to get outside and explore. And a big part of that exploration is discovering these places on your own. If I were to simply post where all these places are, it not only robs you of the discovery, but it also opens the door for the type of people who just want to go to these places for a quick picture, and then leave (those are the folks who generally leave the trash we all hate seeing out there). So with all that said. I’ve made it a habit to no longer post locations for most places I go to because as my channel grows, it would have been a lot harder to stop posting if I have a big following than a smaller one.

I fish sustainable - catch and release only. I'm glad for their adventure but the taking of alpine fish is not good.
@UntilJourneysEnd
@UntilJourneysEnd Ай бұрын
Sustainable fishing does not mean “no wild fish should ever be taken and consumed”. That statement among fishermen either needs to include further context, or be omitted completely. Here’s the context I would add: Every stream, river, or lake has different trout population conditions. In todays age of the internet, there is usually information about these fisheries directly from your local Fish and Wildlife, or private parties. As fishermen, we should not only know our local regulations, but research these fisheries to find out the current conditions. If this information isn’t available online however, then we simply need to know the regs, and then use our best judgement when we’re out in the wild. If the trout seem to be low in numbers, either take only what you need, or only release. A statement like “I practice sustainable fishing and only catch and release” completely negates an entire aspect of fishing that has been practiced since man has walked the earth. Fish is food. And wild fish, specifically trout, is some of the most nutritious, healthy meat one can eat. I prefer to harvest my meat like my ancestors. By my own hand. By my own hook or arrow.
