Trout fishing & free camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains (Part 2) INSANE CAMPING SPOT!!!!

Took a few days off work and headed to the mountains. NO MORE QUARANTINE PLEASE. Fly fishing a river in the Western Sierra Nevada Mountains. It was tough fishing... 97 degrees, river was flooding from snowmelt, but an amazing time none the less! Filmed 05/07/2020 - 05/10/2020. It was 97 degrees with mostly 15 mph winds and was tough fishing.

I grew up at the base of the Sierras in Placer county.. hiked most of it.. from the PCT to the lower foothills trail that runs along thr 49.. been blessed to travel the u.s. and spend time in at least 40 ranges.. the ones you all know like the blue ridge. Ozarks. Smokies, Poconos ect... but nothing compares to the vast , 8000ft, views of the northern Sierra. I still say that THE DESOLATION WILDERNESS AREA very well could be the most beautiful place in the continental u.s. ..

Nice vid. I haven't been there in years but it used to be good fishing. I planned to go back late spring this year (2023) but heard that the snowmelt made it look like a flat Niagra Falls. I may go back now (Oct '23) for a short week. I've got a week to play with and some other spots that I usually frequent may be getting pretty wintery soon.

i go here all the time. My favorite place to go. after you cross the bridge.. turn right and go down the bumpy road for 20 to 25 minutes. Best most secluded camp sites ever. not RV or sedan friendly though. for yall just camp at the granite flat about 5 minutes past the bridge.

Not the "Cattle Drive" chilli from Costco...We bought a case of that stuff on an elk hunting trip to Wyoming and all 8 guys in camp had extreme diarrhea. We changed the name to "Cattle Runs" hope you faired better after.

The put in for the white water trips is a great fly fishing spot just walk up river a bit. The bridge is a sweet jump off spot for thrill seekers when the water is good.

I live in the Central Valley and camp at this spot many times a year. Used to be a somewhat secret area. Now I see so many people going here. Sad thing is, the Kings River takes a lot of lives, hence the helicopter. People need to be careful going here especially with kids.

That location burned down - the entire area above the steel bridge (Rodgers Crossing). This was just a few months ago...June 2024.

I think it’s funny that everybody wants to know the location and you didn’t even catch any fish! I’ve rafted & fished this stretch of river…its ok fishing but kinda dangerous. Many people have drown here. They don’t plant trout but you can catch native rainbows and sometimes smallmouth bass.

I've been rafting there since the mid 70s, but never wet a line there. All wild native trout. 2 fish limit within a bracket and barbless artificial limit should help keep it good.

Came here to check and see if this was a certain spot I know of in the Auburn area. It is not that spot. BUT for anyone who wonders where this is located, DO SOME RESEARCH and I dont mean this in a snarky way, I mean this in an exciting, explorative kind of way. I have found spots simply because I was looking for another. Approach any spot with care and respect and if you meet people, you will eventually get tips on MORE spots. California is a huge and beautiful place, explore it for yourself my friends.

I did. I threw basically everything in my bag. Plus the river was in the middle of melt off season. The fishing for everyone along the river was garbage. For the location, I had to find it by asking some folks and doing some research. Can’t make it too easy for everyone to come destroy what neat secluded places we have left. Thanks for watching!

Kings river just up from Kirch flat campground. Follow the road to Gravel Flat. I was just there the last two days. Not gonna make a video, a fire came through and we had to go....like really fast! So check on that before you go. They closed off all the roads to get there for the next couple weeks. Good luck!

Photography and fishing spots are NOT to be shared with the general public unless you want parking problems, tripod jams or tangled fishing lines,or entire groups, parked at your campsite eating at your table, while you are absent, etc, you get the picture. Oh and target practicing at your favorite swimming hole, so when you get there the beach is not safe.
