Trout Trolling Rod, Reel And Line

I use the same Vance’s rod... the 7 ft one and love it. I use it on the rigger as well as top lining. The line counter reels are so great for trolling. I can tell my kid to let out a specific amount and it’s done... no guessing and no counting pulls. Also use 10lb mono for my main line, and for leaders I’ve used anything from 6lb mono to 10lb fluorocarbon...they both seem to work fine.

On Lake Erie that bead will prevent a build-up of spinney water fleas on your swivel and prevent line twist. A good idea.

Cal - Have you ever done a segment on type of line, mono, flouro, braided etc.? When to use what and the advantage/disadvantages.

I just bought those cannon mini troll downriggers. How heavy of a downrigger ball should I be using?

You talk about using the Sepp's ball bearing swivel. 1) I don't see that in your other trolling setups. 2) I can't find this type of swivel with a clip. 3) do you hook the clip directly to the dodger?

Hi, Can trolling reel able to fix/connect on baitcasting rod or there is different rod for Trolling reel? I am worry if Trolling reel will not able to fix/connect with by baitcasting rod.

No no...Trolling reel and a baitcaster are the same....I like trolling reels that have a line counter....

I reel with my left, and hold with my right. I notice alot of star drag and level wind are right hand reel. Is this something i need to get over? I feel if i had a big fish my arm would tire faster.

Po Muddy most reels have a left hand version for people who reel with their left hand

No you can use both of them . The baitcaster would work great.

Is this setup good for planner board and dive jets up to 50'? If not what would you suggest?

Well it would work with a planer but I think that dive jet might require something a little stiffer....Like a light steelhead rod....Thanks for the comment!

I cant understand model of rod is this? Actually all this looks a little much for trout does it not?

It’s a pretty bendy rod and works really good on trout. For trolling trout 8 or 10lb can both work fine... but the 10 will stay on your downrigger or planer board release better. For bait fishing, like the other guy said, I go much lighter. My bait rods are a fast action 6.5’ spinning rods with 6lb line.
