I’ve watched this video probably 4 times now. Wanax, you did an incredible job putting this together. I have been fascinated with Troy ever since my grandfather read me the Iliad as a child and I’ve always wanted to know more about the city’s history. @@AlexAnastasoThey shared the general Achaean lineage although not in the narrowest sense like Achaeans of Argos and Laconia, and those who later migrated to Achaea. Still, Arcadians were technically Achaean/Mycenaean, as seen by their dialect which continued to carry the Mycenaean features well into the Classical times.

We don't actually know much about where we come from man. If the Bronze Age is a mystery to us, imagine the previous 200,000+ years of modern humanity. Then you have to consider maybe Denisovans and Neanderthals were actually VERY intelligent. There is also another race, the "Paracas" people, but their skulls have been found across the world on every continent not just South America. We barely know shit man, that is my point. The policy of maintaining the status quo between hatti and the Achaeans to survive was also the doom of wilusa. Troy was pushed between two powers and was destroyed at the end. Mycenaean, Pylos, tyrins, all shared her destiny at the end.

I'm curious if you are using different proposed theories, or if you just have better access than what I have found. Either way, I would love to know. I'm writing a Historical fiction in this era and your videos work way better towards the narrative I am crafting than what is otherwise available.

Wonderfully informative video. The idea that the ruling class of Troy possibly had a veneer of Achaean/Cretan culture is something that had never occurred to me before but given the trading/colonising nature of the Greeks from the bronze age to the present day it should come as no surprise. As for the Achaean-Hittie agreement of the late 13th Century BCE I can see the Hittites, being under heavy pressure from Egypt and a rising Assyria, wanting a quiescent western frontier and if that meant abandoning some peripheral territories or associate kingdoms (like Troy) to the Greeks then so be it. Talk about rotten luck.

Trojan ruler's name being ''Alexandru'' doesn't mean he was of Greek origin lol, during that time almost all nations around the known world ( Greece,Anatolia,Persia,Phoenecia,Mesopotamia etc) had names which we call Greek-origin today, plus the name Alexandru sounds more Slavic/Balkan than its a Greek. They shared the same Gods with Greeks but everyone skip one thing whenever they compare that, even the so-called Greek-Mythology was written in Anatolia/Turkey by the guy named Hesiod and they got a lot of examples from the Hittite Gods whenever they were creating their own gods. It was actually the culture and religion of ''Aegeans'' not only the Greeks, Trojans had diffrent style of architecture, traditions, system and language.. they ain't Greeks, they are true Native People of Anatolia or we can call them as Pelesges.

"Alaksandu" is the Hittite transliteration of the Greek name "Alexandros," which means "the man who repels his enemies." The female version of the name, Alexandra, is attested in even older Mycenaean Linear B inscriptions. There is no evidence of any other non-Greek person having that name in the Bronze Age. Surviving Hittite letters make it clear that the Greeks (Ahhiyawa) were militarily active in western Anatolia, including Wilusa, and that they controlled significant amounts of territory there. The letter addressed to Alaksandu/Alexandros from Muwatali II implies that he is not related to the previous king of Troy, the clearly non-Greek Kukkunni, but that this should not be a reason for there to be bad relations between Troy and the Hittites. The same letter mentions that Alaksandu had a similar treaty with Muwatali's father. If you read between the lines, it seems pretty obvious that Alaksandu was a Greek warlord who conquered Troy and then made deals with two successive Hittite kings to keep the peace, probably becoming a vassal of the Hittites in the process. Can we 100% confirm this? No, of course not, but that's a much more logical take on the subject than the idea that he is the only known man in the Bronze Age to have one of the oldest verifiably Greek names without himself being Greek.
