Another part from the Director's Cut version of Troy. When Hector warns Paris that he better not do anything to endanger Troy. I love Hector :)

Which he fails... not just in allowing Paris to take Helen not in not returning Helen but when Paris challenges Menelaus, had Paris been slain, then the Greeks would have had no cause to continue their invasion...or at the very least their legitimate excuse would have been gone and their allies and others would call them out instead hector kills Menelaus to protect Paris, violating the terms of single combat and giving the Greeks even more legitimate excuse to maintain the siege and war. At literally every turn Hector betrays his country for his brother...which ends up destroying it

What if Paris had actually behaved and Troy still had Sparta as an ally? Would Agamemnon still go to war with Troy and would Menelaus fight his own brother?
@AdeptKing
@AdeptKing 4 жыл бұрын
Menelaus probably would have stayed out of it if that happened, since he's one of the more honorable kings. I don't know if Agamemnon would have tried it without him. Sparta was one of the more powerful Greek States in military after all.

Probably not. This wasn’t mentioned in the film, but when it came time for Helen to marry, Odysseus proposed that all the suitors (many of them kings) should swear a solemn oath to defend the chosen husband (Menelaus) in any quarrel. Had Paris not abducted Helen, the other kings wouldn’t have been called upon to defend the “honor of Greece.” Thus Agamemnon would have been pretty much alone in his ambition, as he was the only one who cared about conquering Troy.

There are three things I would change in this movie if I could. 1) Have Paris killed. 2) Have Aeneas as a main supporting character, instead someone Paris just randomly passed the sword of Troy to. Cousin to the family and second strongest warrior like in the story, and leading a lot more Trojans to escape. (And played by Ben Affleck, first choice in my head). 3) Have Paris Killed!! And a bonus HAVE PARIS KILLED!!!!!!

Yes, this was a TERRIBLY WRITTEN scene between Hector and Paris. Saying you love someone and then scaring him with a physical threat is ABUSIVE....Instead of telling Paris that he'd rip his face off, Hector should've just told him that he wouldn't defend him if Menelaus wanted to kill him....that would've made an awesome dynamic later in the movie, when Hector DOES choose to defend Paris from Menelaus.

Actually the Iliad is a bit more complex then that. Hector is seen as a decent character but he is often shown to be very weak, the only times he has moments of glory (Book 12-16) is because of Zeus' blessings...and that is only because Zeus is going to give honour to Achilles. The Fall of Troy is all the will of Zeus.
