I think this song also shows how fame affects troye as a person and his relationship. He chooses an entertainment clown as his alter persona to refer to his public image . And while the clown performs happily on tv, the real sadness and damage is felt by the real troye outside of the limelight. And when the mirror drops and hits troye, two words merging, that's when the clown also starts showing sad face.

Troye Sivan was the artist I listened to in 2015 when I was getting ready to come out. I was petrified to tell my family that I was gay because I felt that they wouldn’t love me. 5 years later I am in a relationship, living with my bf and came out to my parents.
