Back out the lower 2 bolts on the steering gear box and then loosen (but don't pull out) the upper bolt. They are 21mm's. Doing that allows you to rotate the box and get the pitman arm puller in there without having to do all the complicated removal.

Watched a few videos in preparation for doing this on my truck. This is the only one I’ve seen that involved removing the steering box. Is there a reason for completely removing itvs just loosening the 3 bolts?

I think they did it to be able to "vise" it and torque, ill just leave mine on and use the same breaker bar tension off to install lol.

So do these vehicles have one or two pitman arms? Also is there one or two idler arms? Took mine to the shop they said I needed each of them the idler and pitman replaced, but if there's 2 on each side they didn't tell me.

You absolutely do not need to remove the box 10x more work

Less work when you don't have to mess with the pitman arm puller on a free swinging steering gear. Its one more bolt and two hosess not 10x
