Incredibly good. Imagine if all Handel was sung with voices like this instead of the lightened, disengaged voices that sing it today!

What you wrote above is just so precise, I cannot put in words that nicely but totally agree. How many times I encounter those gimmicks and ornaments, and how many sounds close to tenors... Thank you for posting this gem.

I thought I'd heard everything that my father had recorded!?? This is such a gift to find ,especially as we approach the anniversary of his death.RIP Babbone.

In my opinion, your Father had the greatest baritone voice ever. Since discovering opera in the very early 60's, he was my favorite.

I heard your father several times at his peak in the 1960's at the Met. Easily the best baritone I ever heard. While he made several outstanding recordings of complete operas, as far as I know there are no LPs devoted solely to his recordings. I never could understand why, since contemporaries such as Robert Merrill and Sherrill Milnes have had several and, outstanding baritones though they were, your father towered over them. I do have a CD of live recordings devoted solely to him and it is one of my most valued recordings.

Spectacular baritone from my home state. My first voice teacher, Todd Duncan, told me, "don't give the audience the question ... give them THE ANSWER." Cornell MacNeil did just that over decades of performing. One the real greats of opera.

Did you know Kristine Ciesinski? She also studied with Mr. Duncan and she was my teacher.

Todd Duncan was at Curtis for a while in the early 1980s, wasn't he?

Not sure what ‘Tibbet’s level’ was. Another era. Mac here is perfectly modulated, vocally. Tibbett did not have the absolutely incredible top voice MacNeill always displayed. No one did, save for Warren . Maybe.
