I decide to talk a little about another thing you can listen to on your shortwave radio if it has SSB capability. I am using my Grundig 750 shortwave radio which has SSB.

As usual, excellent video and information Tom. I have a brand new GRUNDIG SATELLITE 750 coming in by Wednesday the latest and this might be one of the first thing I do with it in honor of you. I had a 750 back in 2010 and lost it via UPS during a move (long story) and really missed it. Watching your shows made me want another one so I ordered it.

Cheers Tom I wasn't aware of that map/site, I primarily listen to the South East Asia zones (and Australasia) but occasionally hear a handful of Continental US and Canadian HF Aero "Ground Stations" as well :)

I am usually talking on the airplane side, the New York “controller” is actually an aeronautical radio operator, who is relaying for the air traffic controller.

Great video man, I was wondering if I got one of those short wave radios and I live in the Dallas Texas area, do you think I would be able to hear any HF oceanic air band radio transmissions? Or am I too far? I'm an aviation enthusiast and an airport employee at a major airport and this video actually has me interested in getting a radio like yours. I don't know much about radios but I'd like to learn

It would depend on my factors including your location and surrounding buildings, you height above sea level and most important a good external antenna with good coax cable. Have a great day.

Yes, i have these online maps but I'm actually looking for a hardcopy laminated map. Can't seem to find where they sell them. Any clues?

SSB is important, if listening to Hams, on 80, and 40 meters Tom: Do you remember Gander, Newfoundland, Canada? Wasn't it important at one time to overseas pilots?

Gander is still important and directs all incoming commercial jets from Europe. Gander can and does order jets to land. Remember the role of Gander NFLD in 9/11? The other important one is NAV Canada Moncton Centre (CYQM) the last control for jets leaving North America for Europe. Moncton Centre manages 18 Million SQ KM of Canadian and Oceanic Airspace. Both Gander & Moncton are strategic and most important.
