The DELAY setting is how long the alarm or music will sound until it turns off. You can use any 6V AC adapter, but you must confirm that the center is POSitive. Otherwise, it has a good shortwave receiver, so you can listen to WRMI in Miani.

Good review again on a radio with tons of functions and features! Thanks Tom for your review.

hey Tom, thanks for not hesitating to revisit things you've reviewed before. sometimes a bit of space between reviews can glean a lot of new information.

I've had this radio for a few years, I keep it in a window to keep it charged. Also keep it on "ALERT" for weather radio, it seems to do this very well. That said, it is an okay radio, but way to many features and never keeps time & date very well. Yes I like it and at times hate it
@fremountstsongsrich2453 Жыл бұрын
how do you set the date?

I can't get an answer from anyone about one thing... I just want to know how to make the _date_ stay on the screen with the time. I know how to set the date and figured out how to make it show on screen for a few seconds, but not how to make it stay on.

I can't find anything in the manual about doing that. Sorry.

I bet they made the Kaito green in a "nod" to the Green Hornet. LOL

Could be.

I dunno' about that but the green/black aesthetics work nicely together :)

There is a red version and another color as well if memory serves me.

Great job again, Tom. I'm interested in this or the newer model 700. Any thoughts on how they really compare?

No shortwave or longwave. Display looks (contents) like a number of other Chinese radios, such as the KA29 I reviewed several show ago.

i like the green black colors. thank you for this. i will have to watch a few times. i don't know which knob you used to change the time. maybe it is in the instructions. I will look. Regarding the charging the battery using solar. I was told it takes either 4 days or 40 hours (cant remember which by the Kaito tech) last week. But one can't keep this out in the sun very long as it will melt. So, have you had any experience with charging the battery because the adapter charges the battery and that should be done at the bare minimun 1 time per month. If you are interested in expanding on a grid down situation and the limits of the Kaito, I would certainty be interested in your sharing. Let's say there is no charging adapter because there is no power and you are in your 5th day of power of no power and now the internal battery is dead. Oh, do you know the life of these internal batteries? Is it a good idea to have others in stock? Now, continuing, in this case I'm in 5h day no power grid and I need to listen to NOAA and I need to power my cells phone. I mentioned to the Kaito tech that when I have ever used my Kaito 500 by cranking that I crank 2 minutes but only get about one minute of NOAA broadcast. The Kaito tech said it's because the battery is no good or not charged from the adapter. So cranking manually for two minutes gives 30 minutes of radio only if the battery is good? And I guess if the battery is not good you end up with one minute of radio time? The other reason that no attachments are included for charging the Kaito 600 9 was was done for the Kaito 500) is that there are too many adapters. If you have a Kaito 500 (as I ahave both the Kaito 500 and 600 you will see all those adapters.. Now I have always had batteries my my Kaito 500. So those batteries preempt the NIMH battery from working in all cases? See, these are things I just do not understand. I have no experience with these sorts of things. So anyone, reading wish to give advice, I would be interested. thanks so much. I have to find some time to mess with this new Kaito 600. Mne is silver and black. My Kaito 500 is that Green and Black. Love the Green and Black.

I would have thought such things were covered in the user manual, as for the internal Lithium battery, did you charge it when you received the radio? they ship these type cells in a low discharged state as a postage safety requirement (or at least that is how it works here).
@Tocimah8 жыл бұрын
it was stated to crank the radio if i didn't want to use the batteries. no mention that i must have an adapter to charge the battery in the first place nor how often. all that info is not presented. I am a gal with no knowledge of the subject purchasing for an emergency. The booklet is not very helpful in educating me about the product. So---No. I never knew I MUST have the battery charged by an AC Adapter.
@SpectreOZ8 жыл бұрын
+SpectreOZ Fair comment, I don't own one of these "emergency radios" but a large car battery would power my scanner/Shortwave and ancillaries for quite a while so just a different approach, I also own a battery bank (for my USB devices) should the need arise. Lithium cells will discharge but not quickly, a maintenance charge once every six months or so would be sufficient, various battery chemistries behave quite differently and that is why LSD (low self discharge) NIMH (nickel metal hydride) cells are so popular with preppers :) Below is a link to the best all chemistry battery information on the internet you may find some of it interesting/useful. batteryuniversity.com

I have acquired a ton (literally) of 9 Ah batteries, it has been really difficult to keep them all charged. These are 12 volt AGM VRLA batteries with the flag style terminals. Most of them are date coded 06/2015. They were changed out due to customers mandate if they were never put into service within 6 months. I was hoping to wire banks of these into a 90AH and add another 90Ah and so on. The problem is I am going to go through a lot of female terminals. Racking them is another logistics issue. Any thoughts on parallel configurations? I know if one battery goes bad it can bring the rest down over time. It looks as the AGM batts are rugged and take a bit of abuse. I would not run these down much and there is the option of making any voltage I want. As it is now none of these batteries ever fell below 12.75, so they are keepers Cheers
@SpectreOZ8 жыл бұрын
Craig Nehring Ah yes these are popular in portable spotlight, UPS and alarm panel back up scenarios, nice battery :) Wiring these in parallel will improve your capacity but unless you are working towards a low voltage installation you will need to create a series/parallel array. Keeping them parallel only will make charging easier unless you disconnect banks and charge them separately (series/parallel configuration).

This radio is USELESS. You can't power it from the micro USB or 6V ports WHILE you are listening. It turns off after 12 seconds, regardless of how you are powering it. The In/OUT switch is for the USB-A jack.
