It`s worth buying just for the weather band at that price especially if you live in Tornadoville like me. A lot of those tiny radios have surprising AM reception too. I have an analog style DSP AM/FM headset radio with an inch long ferrite antenna that gets shockingly great AM reception. How they made it so sensitive is a mystery nobody has been able to explain to me. I bought the Sony ICF P26 with low expectations and it`s an excellent AM receiver as well especially with a boost from a Tecsun AN-200 loop. I fall asleep listening to it every night and the batteries are still going strong after 14 days. I have other nice AM radios to compare these to and they compete with them well.

A weather radio is a must up here in the Northeast as well due to the wild snowstorms we can get.

I have one of these. It is very good on AM. Try it at night, give it a chance on every frequency you normally receive, and it will pull in a good number of them. It is very sensitive for such a small radio.

One thing to keep in mind is that although this radio is great in terms of sensitivity and selectivity, it is not very loud through the speaker unless you get the volume up to 30 or so. Headphones are better. It is well suited for individual listening.
@hamrad885 жыл бұрын
@@cygnusrider If you are in a noisey room, you will need to use headphones otherwise it is plenty loud.
@cygnusrider5 жыл бұрын
@@hamrad88 I have noticed similar on other newer receivers. That is, you don't seem to get much output at low settings. You have to turn the volume up to 25 to hear much.

Weather radio stations in my area broadcast a test signal every Wednesday at about 11:15 AM. This will test the alert function on your radio. Nice review Tom! ❤️📻
@hamrad885 жыл бұрын
I think that happened here too because when I checked my computer where the radio is located the radio was on and flash with the weather station doing its regular broadcast. So there must have been a test signal sometime when I was out of my office. Meaning it works if that is true. Thanks and have a nice day.

That radio sure looks like a distant cousin to the cc crane am/FM weather pocket radio. Even the instruction manual looks the same .

Interesting. I bet the CC is much more expensive. Thanks and have a great day.

@@jpolar394 All the first CCrane radios on the market were junk that wouldn`t last. A lot of people got ripped off by listening to ads on Coast to Coast AM radio show. The CC Pocket is known to fail often, usually just past the warranty...volume control quits. The Skywave AM/FM/SW/Air Band/WX they sell for $90.00 costs twice what it`s worth and doesn`t have good AM reception compared to less expensive radios. I bought a Grundig G6 Aviator AM/FM/SW SSB/LW/AIR BAND radio for $50.00 bucks new. The Skywave SSB costs $170.00 and my radio does the same thing basically. The CCrane EP Pro is touted as a great AM receiver but many don`t last two days before problems begin. Here`s the deal with these "super" AM radios. They`re only useful (more or less) during the day to get a bit better reception of weaker stations. At night stations boom in from hundreds of miles away. "Super" AM radios are no better than almost any other decent (way less expensive) AM radio at night. You can turn an average AM radio into a "super" radio with a $25.00 passive loop antenna. CCrane wants $170.00 for their top of the line CCrane 2e super AM radio (I think is the name?). It`s a gimmick. It would be no more useful to me than my $20.00 Sony ICF P26 in combo with my Tecsun loop in my area and at night any AM radio could basically equal it. If I want true super daytime reception I can string out a 300 ft long wire, build a simple inductive coil, and hear stations clearly at over 300 miles away during the day using any AM radio.

Hi Tom. Really enjoyed this video. I know you like to hear technical information about what your viewers are seeing and hearing. I watch your videos on a Roku Ultra over my stereo system and your phone is slightly biasing your audio towards the left speaker. When I would imagine your phone would record something in mono and it would be spread between the two equally. A lot of KZbinrs who use their phones see that their phones constantly try to refocus and it's very irritating. But your phone does it very seldomly. so it's very tolerable.
@hamrad885 жыл бұрын
Yes, I noticed the refocusing too and I am considering turning it off for a few shows and see if that would be better. Thanks for the inputs.
